And The Kids Come Running

Monday, June 28th 2010

This is a compensated review by BlogHer and Pop-Tarts.

With two in college, one in high school and one entering middle school, it’s not often that we have all four of our children together these days. It’s even less often that they can agree on what to eat.

But when I announced, “Hey, kids! I made homemade ice cream sandwiches out of Pop-Tarts®.
Would you like one?” They all came running.

popice2

And they did what is eve more rare in this house…they quietly got along and let me take their picture.

Brilliant!

Pop’em In The Freezer for Summer Pop-Tart Fun

Monday, June 21st 2010

This is a compensated review by BlogHer and Pop-Tarts.

When I was pregnant with my youngest, Pop-Tarts were a major craving of mine so it always makes me smile when my now 10 year old asks for them at the store. There’s just something about a warm, crispy strawberry Pop-Tart that makes everything right with my world. I guess you could say they were and still are my ultimate comfort food.

When I was asked to do a Pop-Tarts Sprinklings review, it was hard to refuse. Okay, maybe I begged..a little. I was excited because the assignment was to think up creative summer treats to make with Pop-Tarts. When I took a look at the ideas already on the Pop-Tarts website, I was quite impressed with their ingenuity. If I had to describe my takeaway in one word – YUM.

Last weekend, my 10 year old’s softball team had their end of season tournament and it was a scorcher. You never know how long your day will be at a tournament; the more you win, the more you play. With that scenario in mind, parents were asked to bring snacks and drinks to tide the girls through. I knew I wanted to whip up something using Pop-Tarts® Ice Cream Shoppe™ Vanilla Milkshake because they use 25% less sugar than leading toaster pastries and because I knew they would be delicious with blueberries.

spreadpop

After some inspiration from the Kellogg’s Pop-Tart website, my daughter and I came up with a healthy breakfast snack for the team. With the first game starting at 9am, they were going to need it.

Sharks Softball Blueberry Breakfast

spread

1. Spread vanilla flavored yogurt over a sheet of Pop-Tarts

2. Sprinkle with blueberries and freeze overnight

3. Watch the Sharks circle

4. And devour the whole batch!

Our Patriotic Version

We added licorice to this version for the Fourth of July. (And then I ate it for breakfast.)

DC Metro Moms Party Like Blog Stars

Thursday, June 10th 2010

Two things always in the “Kimberly’s Favorites” category, DCMM/SV Moms and The Ritz, came together Sunday and left me with a huge smile on my face, a full belly and so thankful for the opportunity to reconnect and meet so many wonderful people. And eat SO much glorious food. (You may notice that there are more pictures of the food, specifically baked goods, than anything/anyone else at the event).

Not Too Shabby

Friday, June 4th 2010

I love shopping online. Love it. But what I don’t love is sitting there in front of my monitor, hoping I pick the right size, ordering a dress, waiting for it to be delivered and then finally trying it on when it arrives just to think think, “Eck. This doesn’t look right on me at all!”

So why am I running through the hills like The Sound of Music?

shabbyapple1

Because I found an dress company that takes the guesswork out of online shopping.
Meet Shabby Apple.

shabbyapple2

All I had to do was answer 3 simple questions and the website told me my body type.
And when the dress arrived? It fit and I danced.

CONTEST CLOSEDpowerade_header

This is sponsored content from BlogHer and Powerade.

I was given POWERADE PLAY to try in my own home, and was paid for my time to write the review. I was not paid to write a positive review and all thoughts written below were my own.

I have two daughters and both are involved in different sports because, you know, life would be too easy if they enjoyed the same activities. My oldest has been playing soccer since she was in preschool and also ran her first season of track this year. My youngest plays softball, rides horses and is on a vaulting team. I was an athlete, as was my husband, and we both believe that playing sports is an essential part of growing up healthy and strong.

In a country that’s full of convenience food & super sized meals on one hand and waif thin photo-shopped models and celebrities on the other, parents have to be very careful about what we feed our children as well as how we shape their thoughts on their own body image. But how?

The only answer I keep personally returning to is that we need to stand up and take charge. That means taking control of not only our own diet but maintaining a healthy diet and good fitness role modeling for the entire family. For these reasons, I was thrilled to review a new line of healthier sports drinks.

poweradesmall

POWERADE PLAY is POWERADE’s new sports drink for the young athlete. With just 60 calories per 12 fluid ounce bottle, it has 25% less sugar than traditional sports drinks. PLAY is enhanced with 100% of the Daily Value (DV) of Vitamin C and 20% DV Zinc to help support a healthy immune system. PLAY also boasts 20% of the DV of Vitamins B3, B5, B6 and B12 to boot. And like the brand’s flagship, PLAY will feature POWERADE’s ION4TM electrolyte system, which helps replenish four electrolytes lost in sweat (sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium). Throw in 100% natural flavors, on-pack illustrations of partner athletes Ryan Howard, Chris Paul and Venus Williams, and great taste and it is a great combination for the active youngster.

POWERADE PLAY will come in familiar great-tasting POWERADE flavors-Mixed Berry, Fruit Punch, Grape and Orange. The product will be available in 6 and 12 packs of 12 fl oz bottles.

Please visit the official site for more information: POWERADE website
Official POWERADE PLAY link: www.poweradeplay.com

My girls both said that they liked POWERADE over other sports drinks, and you know, when they’re happy, life is easier all around.
