The Ruse
For months I have not been able to share the details, stress and planning and for months I have been weaving untruths into my marriage. In fact, I am so good at lying to my husband at this point I’m afraid I won’t be able to stop. However, all of my dishonesty was for a good cause- a surprise birthday party for my husband.
Last Friday my husband thought we were meeting my sister and her boyfriend for drinks at his favorite hotel. This was actually true. He just wasn’t aware that 30 more of his close friends and family were waiting for him there as well. When the elevator doors opened and we walked out to shouts of “Happy Birthday” & “Surprise!” the look on his face was priceless.
Casino Night
The theme of the party was Casino Night. Set up inside the ballroom was a Black Jack table, a Texas Hold’em table and a Roulette table. A few crafty friends even had funny money printed up with my husband’s face on the front. How fun is it to gamble away $1000 dollar bills with no worries?
Very fun indeed.

We had an open bar, coffee station, a prime rib carving station, a turkey carving station and a salad bar. Later that evening, they brought out a beautiful cake that was decorated casino style as well.
Blog Threads
There were a few bloggers present at the party including my mom, my sister and J&J’s Mom. I was lucky enough to have a signature board drawn up by my blogfriend RugDesigner’s very talented son. He drew a racing caricature of my husband next to his car wearing a pink racing/jumpsuit. It was hilarious and will soon be framed on our wall to enjoy for years to come. Thank you!!
I had a funny conversation with the sweet girl that is dating Meredith’s brother (and my cousin). We somehow got on the topic of Mere’s blog and she asked if I was the one who thought my care package was lost in the mail. I said, “Yes, I’m MommaK”. She looked shocked and said “You’re MommaK!?! I thought MommaK was like some 65 year old lady!”. Besides feeling as though I come off like a senior citizen on my blog, it was really cool to be a blog star for a brief second.
It’s Your Party and I’ll Drink All of the Red Wine if I Want to
Yes, by 11 pm someone should have stopped filling up the blonde in the brown dress’ wine glass - both of us actually.

If my memory serves me correctly, everyone had a wonderful time and the party was a huge success. The other thing that was huge was my headache the next morning, but I guess if you do the crime you have to do the time.
The Best Birthday Ever
I was worried about how my husband would react to the surprise factor. Some people hate surprises, you know. Not to fear- he loved every minute of the party…well, maybe not my Nana dragging him into the corner for a lecture about noneofherdamnbusiness or Ms.BitchyBitterBoop trying to stir up some drama with her “hold me back” antics or the announcement by his brother that he and his girlfriend were getting married (him for the third time)…but otherwise, my husband was thrilled. He told me that it was the absolute perfect day and the best birthday he’s ever had. You have no idea how happy that made me. Yippee & Whew!

Sounds like a wonderful night! Your husband is very lucky to have you (and you him too!
Looks & Sounds as if everyone has a fantastic time. BTW..Happy Birthday to your Hubby.
Wow, what an awesome birthday surprise! I am wanting to do something simular for my hubbys 40th!
Take care!
That looks like a blast. Why weren’t the rest of us invited?
It sounds perfect! Glad it went off without a hitch.
If you come off as a 65 year old woman, what do I come off as? Dorky at the very least.
Oh wait, I don’t want to know.
65? Hell I must seem ancient.
I just knew your party was going to be great!!I am glad you had a great time and kicked up your heels a bit.
That looks like it was a great night that went down well, thanks to you.
I am so happy for you….it went well and you both enjoyed yourselves!!!!!!Along with all the other guests.
You do NOT come across as 65 year old????
How old is this person that asked????
Sounds like a wonderful night. I know how stressfull the planning is. I did it for Todd when he turned 30. I rented out a bar for the night, invited 200 people, had it catered and bought kegs. I even had to guarantee the bartenders tips, since I wanted the kegs of beer to be free for the guests. It turned out being quite expensive, but he will never forget it - and neither will your hubby!!!
That sounds like a great birthday party! I threw my ex a surprise 30th birthday party. He was surprised. I think he loosened up and actually liked it.
I wish I could have joined you all. My brother and his lady friend had a fantastic time. You done good! Let’s chat soon.
Absolutely a wonderful time shared by all - learned some of the intricacies of gambling - whether that will ever prove useful is another story! Every family has it’s ‘drama’ and we certainly did not escape it but for those who chose to come and get into the spirit of the night - it was a great party. I met many of BP’s fellow work associates - enjoyed the company of two local friends of MommaK one of which is J&J’s Mom! Great food, fun and company. But most importantly I enjoyed having my brother, nephew and my sweet daughters together! There’s no measuring that!
Wow what a great birthday surprise!! Your husband is very lucky. But I’m sure you remind him of that every day
I know I do mine. LOL It looks like everyone had a wonderful time.
Boy, you really know how to throw a party! I had a much smaller one for my dh’s 50th, and keeping it a secret nearly killed me. I usually tell him everything. So that was his first and only surprise party. He’s welcome to throw one for me anytime, though.
It sounds AMAZING! I know you did a fabulous job…and NO FAIR only giving us the back of your gorgeous head.

I’m quite positive PoppaK had the time of his life.
HEY!! I recognize that building!! My wedding reception was there! What a great place for a party! Which room did you use?
Sounds like a great party!
Dig the picture of your back ;0) Clever ..clever! You were a very funny and sexy woman I must say! A fun time was had by all…you need to fill me in by the bettybitchyboop bit…Nana was a cool laday. Hope your head is feeling better ;0)

Glad it turned out so well! It sounds like a fabulous party, and well worth the effort. I could never pull it off. You owe yourself an enormous pat on the back!
