I Ink I Love You

Monday, November 7th 2005

If you’ve been hanging here with me a while, you may have already caught a few glimpses of
my husband’s LOVEly gestures
.

bathroom message

He is indeed a visual kind of guy. A few years ago, he had my name tattooed on his arm and in order to match that expression, I went for the ink as well. So, my friends, if you guessed C, you were correct.

Mommy, what did you do while we were in school today?

Last Friday, as I drove myself to the local tattoo parlor, I tried to remember how getting a tattoo felt. I was 18 when I got mine - a small blue dolphin on my left shoulder. Fourteen long years later, I couldn’t even begin to recall the sensation.

Once inside and straddling the chair, I was calmed by the presence of my friend who came for support and the aroma of the place. There was a sweet mixture of tobacco, Old Spice and Bud that lingered in my nose and as John Denver sang to me from the CD player and the buzzing of the needle began, I was tranquil.

The tattoo did not hurt at all. I had my dolphin redone and my husbands name put inside of it.

It took me over 24 hours to find the right moment to show my husband, who had no idea. When I did reveal my new color, he was floored. It means exactly what I was hoping it would mean to him - Forever.

Are you shocked? Is that something you would do?

Your turn:
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done for love?

If you really love me, feed me in your reader!

You love me. You really love me. Dontchya?

  • Packed up my kids and everything I owned and moved to Va. to love, live and marry a man I had only seen in person 3 times, had talked to in real time for 3 months and met on the internet 5 months prior.

  • Well I’d never get a tatoo. But the craziest thing I’ve ever done was stole my mom’s car before I had my license.

  • I would get a very small tatoo if my husband found them appealing. He doesn’t so I guess I’ll stay tatoo free forever. I did get a pen and write something somewhere that only he would find. Ummmm he laughed way longer than I had ever anticipated.

  • That’s so cool MommaK! I don’t know if I would get a tattoo. I’ve always wanted one, but never knew what to get. It would have to be meaningful. Plus I’m a bit afraid of the pain. Now henna tattoos? Yeah, absolutely.

  • Awww. My hubby and I have matching tattoos, we got them before he left for Iraq. Leanne & Mark’s Tats

It’s an intricate design with a lot of symbolism, Mirrored L’s, M and W in the center, red stylized heart and two purple teardrops for the girls.

Congrats on your new ‘too! Send pics.

  • You are so brave! The closest I’ve come to a tattoo is “thinking.”

I guess the craziest thing I’ve ever done is to stay in TN, sell my house and start my own business in order not to be away from SWD before we got married. I could have moved back to AL with a nice-paying job, but I hated the job and I love SWD. The choice was very easy so it didn’t really feel crazy…

  • Craziest thing? Get married at 23 and move to Europe with no money to our name.

    Wouldn’t trade it for anything.

  • It was the shoulder that threw me off on the tattoo, but you already had one there. That makes more sense.

  • Got my entire back tattooed, because he thinks it is sexy!

I want to see a picture!

  • Don’ let that dolphin get all saggy later in life. There is not much worse than saggy dolhin, except maybe a whale.

  • i would never get tattooted, i’ve got the whole needle issue thing going on, ouch!

  • Bob Denver sang?

  • Well, getting married once is not so crazy but the third and fourth time, people looked at me like I was a little crazy, yeah.

  • Ohhh, that is SO sweet! The wackiest thing I’ve done for my hubby, well, it’s not really whacky, but I went beyond my comfort level for him and let him take naughty pictures of me. No, I’m not a prude, but I am camera shy, especially when naughtiness is involved.

  • I moved over 3,000 miles to New York City.

  • Would you believe that out of all the crazy things I’ve done, none (that I can think of) have been for L.O.V.E.??
    Weird.

So, let’s see the new tat!

  • Andrea

My husband would love it if I was to do that!

  • My husband wants me to get one. Problem is, I’m sick of being stuck with needles, and there’s nothing I can think of that I’d want. When he was getting more of his back done last week I stopped at the shop to see how it was coming. He was practically begging me to get one right then and there. I ran out the door.

  • the craziest thing I’ve done for love? I married the guy, isn’t that crazy enough?

  • I’ve can’t really think of anything crazy that I’ve done…hmmm…

But I wanted to say that one of the reasons I love coming here is that it could’ve been ANY one of those four choices.

  • I didn’t know Bob Denver sang! Gilligan’s Greatest Hits? Not much on ‘toos, but definitely into the eternal love relationship. I guess the craziest thing I ‘ve ever done was meeting an internet date, although it brought me my sweetheart. My mom was convinced I would leave my babies orphaned and “come home headless in a box”. She wasn’t even comforted that our first date was church.

  • Awww..that’s really special! Craziest thing I’ve ever done for love? Hmm..still waiting for it to happen

  • That’s so exciting! Where are the photos? I have a few small tatts that are significant to me, no names though. Don’t know that I would put a name, but I would definitely consider a small symbolic picture for love.

Craziest thing I did was move cross-country exactly a year ago. There were other factors, but love was the main one!

  • Craziest thing?

I got married and stuck with it for 19 years…so far.

  • Yeah… where’s the picture of this tattoo?

I would LOVE to get a tattoo - a peace sign - and I might even add my husband’s name as well. But, alas, he doesn’t want me to.

  • Well done! I would love to have one. Hope we see a picture.

  • I am SHOCKED! A TATTOO! Go, girl, go!

The craziest thing I did for love was break up with a boyfriend of 6 years to date (and eventually marry) a divorcee I WORKED with who was 15 years my senior and had two daughters about to enter puberty.

And we all lived happily ever after!

  • I got my tattoo years ago and it needs to be redone. I obliged my husband, who didn’t want me to get one at all, by putting it where only he and I could ever see it!

    ~K!

  • just getting married was crazy enough for me.

  • Oh, you are going to share right?

I don’t think I’ve done anything crazy for love…I was crazy enough before I fell in love! LOL

  • I remember that top photo! And the stories that went with it, too. So sweet.
I’m very impressed about you and your forever tattoo. But no, not shocked.

  • Ooh, I wondered what it was! Good for you!
