Last Wednesday my husband and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary. He gave me a bouquet of beautiful roses and a card that brought me to tears…and still does every time I read it.
The moment he mentions in the card was indeed an amazing encounter. It was July and he and I were getting very serious very fast. So fast that I think it scared him. In fact, I know it did. He told me he thought it best that I go home (back to Maryland) for a while so that we could get some perspective on our relationship. I took this as any normal 20 year old girl would - he was breaking up with me. I was heartsick. I called my mother sobbing and made plans to return to Maryland immediately. That particular day he was working delivering food for a local restaurant. His brother offered to take me to the airport, an offer I gladly accepted as I was already a mess without having to say goodbye to him again. On our way to the airport the Lisa Loeb song “Stay” came on the car radio and I burst into tears because that was one of our songs. Just as his brother was fishing out a fast food napkin for my nose I saw his car coming down the street. He spotted our car, swerved off the road and jumped out. I yelled at his brother to stop our car and I remember that couldn’t get out of that Nova fast enough. He ran across the street dodging traffic and swept me up into his arms. He apologized over and over and kissed away my tears. He said that he was a total jerk and had been only acting out of fear. He told me he loved me and that he wanted to marry me right there in the middle of the Las Vegas street. And the rest, as they say, is history…or fate. I think it was fate. We were married a month later by the Justice of the Peace of Clark County, NV. Since then we have been rich and poor, sick and well, and have been able to weather any storm we’ve encountered. We have a beautiful “us” story with love playing the starring role.Eleven years creates so many moments. One of my favorites is on the side of the street in Vegas, crossing paths by chance. You on your way to the airport to go home, our song comes on the radio and it felt like God had his hand on my heart and was squeezing hard. I knew in that instant that I would love you forever. I’m ready for eleventy more.
Yes, I do know how lucky I am.
What about you? Do you believe in fate?
Tell me your love story…

Happy Anniversary! I totally believe in fate. When I decided not to go back to university at the ripe old age of 19, I went to community college in Halifax. I met my future hubby that year in a bar. Come to find out his mother and my father went to the same school and were in the same class in grade three. It was a total Twilight Zone kind of moment. Been married 10 years! Here’s to many more!
Oh my gosh, that is SOOOOO romantic!
I had been single for about 2 years (after being divorced THREE times) so I was in no hurry to meet anyone. I said that if I DID meet someone, it would have to be at work or if I hit him with my car. My friend (who was dying of cancer at the time) said “You have to meet this guy; I KNOW you would like him, he’s just your type.” I was like “No, no.” She was telling him the same thing about me. This went on for 6 months. Finally one day I was with her and we ran into him and started talking. I liked him right away and we found out we were going to the same college, both studying computer science, both like motorcycles, have the same kind of sense of humor, came from the same kind of backgrounds, we just had a LOT in common. I said I needed to buy a computer and he said he would help me pick one out, so a few days later that was our first date, computer shopping.
We got married 7 weeks later!
We’ve been married a little over 5 years now and it’s only getting better.
You two may not have gone to Hollywood, but it sounds better than a Hollywood movie to me.
Darnit I was just heading out the door and now I have to touch up my make-up!!!
Happy tears for such a happy story.
You are a lucky girl, indeed. And so is your hubby.
That is so sweet! You two are a great match… Amazing what can happen with an open heart..
Wow, what a love story you have to tell
. Congratulations and happy anniversary here’s to eleventy more *tinks wine glass*
::Sniffles:: That sounds like a movie!! Serendipity maybe? Congratulations!!
True romance. I love it.
A beautiful story, MommaK. Well told.
I came back from vacation one day earlier so that I could have a relaxing weekend.
yes i believe in fate, if you’re meant to be with someone, he’ll find you no matter what. i’ve been married 26 years last june, how did that happen, seems like just yesterday we were still dating.
That is so beautiful! Happy Anniversary!
WOW! What a wonderful, romantic husband you have. Congrats on 11 years. The flowers and card are both beautiful.
That is just the sweetest story I have ever heard and sure does sound like hollywood movie.
I do believe it was meant to be….then all the stars line up and things just seem to happen to make it happen….if you know what I mean.
Oh that’s so wonderful and I’m so pleased for both of you.
I don’t have a love story (yet?) but I’ll settle with yours for now!
mommaK!!! that is one great love story… just like in the movies!!! LOL! and you even have the music to go with it… beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
btw, i have Stay on my permanent playlist…
Happy Anniversary, you two!
Scott and I met on the internet. It was love at first IM lol
That sounds like a script right out of a movie!
I’m an incurable romantic at heart.. but shhhh! Don’t tell anyone…
I SO believe in fate.
a little boy once made me a pizza from scratch as I visited his sister, my best friend. He was younger than me and just wanted to get my attention.
It took 12 more years but he finally got it. And we’ve been married ever since.
What a wonderful love story you have to share MommaK. I think I’ll go hug my pain in the ass of a husband.
See, I told you that you were the couple that I look to. Your story and the story of your eleven years makes believing in love possible. You are amazingly lucky - I only hope that I will experience that kind of marriage. I love you both!
That was my chic flick, good cry for today. Every single day something touches me enough to give me the good cry. Your story was it. Of course, I believe in fate.
And your husband does magnificent card. Bravo for him!
Happy Anniversary MommaK! What a wonderful moment in your romance. Wow. My story is all over my blog since I just celebrated an anniversary too. True love is a beautiful thing, yes?
Congratulations, MommaK! You have a lovely and romantic story. I think a little upheaval does a romance good.
I broke up with my boyfriend of 6 years when I met my future husband at work. I thought I was crazy- but I was totally infatuated with him. We married a year and a half later and he is truly my best friend and the love of my life. I’m so glad I went with my gut.
I believe in cheeseburgers and in telling it like it is, unless the person you are telling is a girl, then you have to temper it.
beautiful story… i totally believe in fate and timing! my honey and i met on the first day of college orientation (at the same time our parents met outside). We were best friends in college (when I was not ready for a serious relationship) but then several years later the timing was right, and we finally got together when work brought him out to LA near where I was living. within the year I moved back to Jersey, and we have been happy together ever since! great post mommak…
thats so sweet! i totally believe in fate, if it was meant to be its totally gonna happen!
Oh yeah…I believe in fate. And romance. And all that stuff! I’m just waiting for it to come sweep me off my feet
I’m with poopie…I feel like I’m sort of in a holding pattern right now. Made too many mistakes before, so now I’m just going to wait until I KNOW.
And I so love your husband…he says and does the sweetest things! And naturally it is no less that what you deserve.
Happy Anniversary!! What a beautiful card! I love him, too!! And I love his choice of roses. Very nice selection!
Happy Anniversary. What a great card and great story. I so believe in fate. My dh and i were destined for each other. Matter of fact, I moved in w. him after two dates. I just never left….
I never knew that story!!??!! Reminds me of a Harrison Ford movie!
Oh my God. I got the shivers reading that. I deleted my love story and I will try to see if I can reconstruct it for you. It is very long and complicated like most of my life but the weird thing is, someone left a comment on my site mentioning that same song. I have never heard it, and wish to. If you know where I can buy a copy, I haven’t been able to find it…
Wow. Simply gorgeous.
