Bad Habits

Monday, August 22nd 2005

Summer is a highly anticipated season for various reasons. I’d guess that a big factor for a lot of us is that it brings with it a change in the routine. The hope is that we may be able to relax and have fun a bit more and maybe even take a vacation. Helping with homework and a strict bedtime are not a factor and dinner may be served a little later than usual. We may tend to cook out more or not cook at all. It’s nice to let the schedule sag and lag a bit…but what happens when its time to suck it up and get back to normal??

Some summer habits are hard to break. For me, it’s going to bed and sleeping late. I have been staying up later and later and this change in routine was solidified recently on our trip CA. Now my family is 100% on PDT and we can’t get off. I am also eating like crap. I ate everything in sight while on vacation and I can’t seem to stop. Maybe I need hypnotherapy…

Speaking of bad habits, have you seen the show
Being Bobby Brown? We caught a few episodes while in CA. By caught, I mean like a deer in headlights or like a kid seeing a circus freak for the first time…unable to break the stare. The show is supposed to be a peek into the life of Bobby Brown and his marriage to Whitney Houston. I guess the only word that I disagree with in that description is “peek”. The work peek sounds polite and tidy. This show is neither.

As a reality show, it is almost too real. Both Bobby & Whitney are drinking or drunk all of the time. Whitney likes to talk about her bodily functions much more than is comfortable and Bobby acts like a fat-has-been-nut-job being followed around by a camera crew. Shocking.

I found this blog that details more of the craziness if you are interested. Yes, that is a cigar in her hand…

Today I ask you this:

What is going to be the hardest summer habit for you to break this year ?
What was the most difficult bad habit that you were able to overcome in your life?

If you really love me, feed me in your reader!

You love me. You really love me. Dontchya?

  • wow, um that is a different family. I will have to get back to you on this… um, show.

I do not get to sleep late thanks to the puppy. And I do not stay up late… cause of puppy. So my habbit that will kill me to break will be…. get myself dress for the public! I just wanna wear pj’s all day and for the rest of my life or until puppy is not a puppy anymore! LOL.

My hardest habbit to give up in life…. I have not given up any, unless you count sleeping with other men…lol. Had to give that up, this whole marriage thing put a stop to that…lol.

Yes MommaK I did see one of the Bobby Brown shows and thought the same as you….what kind of life is that????????

I have to work every season, so I don’t have to break any habits….but what I will miss, is the beach!!!
I did give up smoking 9 months ago (well Sept 1st will be)….and every day I think of it.

  • I have seen the show! It is like watching a train wreck!

Having to be on a school schedule is the biggest thing.

Most difficult habit to conquer - smoking. It was a hard one.

  • Like you, it’s the sleep schedule that will be hard to break! I’ve been sleeping in until after 8 and staying up to watch Conan and I just cannot do that when school starts!

The most difficult habit to break is my impulsive food nibbling! I’m doing Weight Watchers now, and it is helping, but if I had a bag of M & M’s in front of me, it would be difficult to keep my hands off! (but I would) Quitting smoking was TOUGH, but food is around all the time!

  • My hardest habit would be wanting to sleep in instead of going to school!

  • I would have to say that my hardest habit period is my eating habits and my g.d. addiction to pepsi (a.k.a. the devil). I have eaten shitty since the birth of Ashton. Then, I had horrible post-partum depression and I ate my way through that. Then summer hit, and cookout after cookout, etc. I have got to buckle down and get this weight off.

  • Bad Habits?
Going to bed late is one.

The other is ice-cream and chocolate. I got in the habit out east and now I’m hooked.

I’m trying to get back into my good habits, like exercising. It’s hard to get back on track.

  • okay, i can’t relate to the whole “summer habit” thing, because i have no kids and just a regular job so every stupid day is the same. meh.

but i HAVE seen that show, and OH MY GOD those two are so trashy. i had my husband watch one this weekend for the first time and he was open-mouthed the whole time. it’s just too bizarre.

  • I’ve heard about that show…I don’t think they offer it here in St. Louis! I’m glad they don’t show it here because it’s like a terrible car accident….you just gotta see what’s going on.

    As for the questions…
The hardest habit for me to break this summer will be: getting up early..I’ve become very accustomed to sleeping until I wake up!
The hardest habit I have ever broken in my life: Most definitely, smoking!

  • Since I am going to be going back to work soon (boo!) I think the sitting in the sun while Princess plays in her pool will be missed most of all. I do hope I keep the exercising habit though - that one is working out well.

  • Giving up smoking was BY FAR the hardest thing to do.

  • That is a very hard question. I don’t know if I’ve ever in my life overcome a bad habit. Gives me something to consider.

The hardest thing for me to do this year as fall creeps upon us is the fact that this is the first year ever I’ve had “school” to worry about. My 4 year old baby is taking the plunge and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. So it will be difficult for me to adjust to this not only emotionally but physically as well. As I am very lucky that he is going to be going in the afternoons, I still can’t just make plans whenever I want and pack up the kids and go. I have to be more aware of what to buy for groceries, I need to make sure that what we do eat at home doesn’t cross contanimate for something he eats at school as there are children with allergies there. I have to be more on the ball with his behaviour as well as my own. Not that I haven’t before, but it may have greater impact now. There is a lot of change happening soon. I’m just so not ready for this.

  • Chrissy

I really want to see that show. I used to love Whitney.
I work so I can’t think of anything that will have to change but I am sure once my son goes to school things will be very different. Luckily I have a few years.
The hardest thing I had to conquer was flirting/cheating. I can honestly say my husband is the only man I have never cheated on. I guess it is true, when you meet the right person…

  • Hardest summer habit to break…blogging…and I don’t want to break it.

  • See, this is easy for me, as I have no summer habits. Nothing changes for me in the summertime, absolutely nothing.

    How sad is that?

  • I found out about that Bobby Brown show through that blog too. Didn’t even know it existed until then. Very scary and I feel sorry for the daughter.

The hardest summer habit to give up will be all the lazing about I’ve done at home and around town!

  • I used to think Whitney was such a class act and so talented. It seemed to fall apart as soon as she hooked up with Bobby. Sad.
As you probably know, I HATE Summer. Oh, except the fact that I’m a biker and it’s colder than crap here in the Winter. (I guess I’m an enigma. Tee-hee! I like that word!) We rarely ride between Nov. 1 to March 1. Maybe the Christmas parade in town and the occasional freak day above 50 degrees.
    hmmmm…I think I feel the need for a snow-mobile coming on…

  • Mommak- did you see my blog re: the Bobby Brown show- I got hooked by the back to back shows one night and can’t stop-it’s actually almost painful to watch-

I have a hard time breaking the sleeping in thing- and just the freedom!

  • I just wrote about Bobby last night, too!

  • I barely remember summer habits. It all seems the same now I’m a grown up and our weather is so bad all year we hardly notice summer!

  • I can’t handle the Living with Bobby Brown. Too much Mania for me!!! Hardest habit to give up this summer - Iced Cappacinos from Tim Horton’s (do you have that in the U.S.?) and hardest habit to give up of all time: smoking. By and far. Ciao!

  • i’ve never heard of that show, whitney looks awful in that pic.
i’m obsessive compulsive in general, i’ve really worked at trying to relax about things that make me crazy, most days are ok, but i do have relapses
i’ve enjoyed the summer of not having to pack lunches, help with homework, not worry about bedtimes, i’m going to miss that

  • Hmmm… what habit do I want to break from the summer? None!! I loooove summer. But if I had to break one, I suppose it would be waking up early Saturday morning, loading the kids up after a quick breakfast, and going to garage sales. I do love them. But. It will be nice to go back to leisurely Saturday mornings.

The hardest habit overall to break? That one is easy. I am an ex-smoker (over 10 years now). I was only a social smoker, but even that drove my husband crazy. So I quit. Glad I did though!

  • I didn’t have any bad habits this summer. I developed good ones!

Worst habit I’ve ever broken is smoking. Quit that bad-boy a year ago. Still did a little social smoking on occasion, but since April, not a single cancer stick.

  • I did catch an episode of that show and it is shocking! Since my kids aren’t in school yet everyday is like summer around here. We play, but we always have a schedule. My hardest habit to break was to stop eating fat food. I can’t anymore since I had my gall bladder out, but I try to sneak in some every now and again!

  • I definately agree with you on the sleeping thing. I went back to work in July, and now that school has started back, I have to get up and get my shower earlier before everyone else gets up because I have to help my daughter straighten her thick, course, incrediably untame hair which could take at least half an hour. UGH! One think I won’t miss about summer is the heat and humidity!

  • I right there with you on the sleepng thing. I woke up today to Regis & Kelly, when normally it would be Good Morning America. Bleh.

My worst habit ever, though, is snapping my gum. I’ve done it since high school and I can not break it. It’s loud, gross and annoying.

  • I’m with you, a night owl by choice. Getting back into a decent bed time is the worst part of going back to school. (For example, I’m supposed to be in bed now!)

  • I *LOVE* Frank the Tank!!! Can I borrow him?
