Be Grateful For Who You Are

Monday, September 7th 2009

That’s the title of week #3 in the Gratitude Challenge. Yesterday, I was supposed to come up with five things that I love about myself after looking in the mirror for an uncomfortable amount of time. Without a glance, I began obsessing about my weight because I currently feel like I’m in a gray zone of insecurity bordering on being legitimately chunky. That, let me tell you, is a perilous ledge on which to perch. I realized what it takes to get down is a just little honesty. I guess that’s what I was looking for with my last post…both from you and from myself.

Thanks for the compliments but do I hope you know that I wasn’t fishing. Rather, I was stalling. For what? Motivation? Self-realization? Commiseration? Validation? Yes, exactly. That and the truth. Funny how it feels better to hear that you may be slightly overweight than it is to be ignored or misunderstood.

And so I took that look in the mirror and I counted up the five things I would consider my physical assets. Finding them wasn’t as hard as I thought because, really and truly, I do like me. The challenge was finding things I love about myself without ruminating over the things I wish were different. (Now my homework is to find a way to quit that nasty habit.)

Here’s what I came up with:

1. I adore my hair.
2. I like my arms.
3. My mother paid good money for my beautiful teeth.
4. I have pretty hands.
5. I dig my boobs.

There. Not so tough.

Now it’s your turn: Be grateful for who you are and share your five best physical assets.
Don’t be shy…as you can see, I wasn’t.
And thank you.

You love me. You really love me.

  • I adore your hair, too.

Oh, crap. My turn? Alright I’m not doing the naked thing because it’s just too damn early in the morning. In no particular order I am fond of: my arms, my posture, my ass, my back, and my height. Oh, and my eyes but only if I’ve gotten enough sleep which is NOT the case this morning.

Love you Kim. You are beautiful inside and out.

  • My best physical assets:

    1. Thick brown hair
    2. Dark brown eyes
    3. A smile that comes easily
    4. Strong arms
    5. Barely emergent abs

  • You are a good friend. And excellent VP of the Lazy Club.

Hmmm, this is tough for me too, but here goes.

    1. My eyes
    2. My long legs/my height
    3. My smile
    4. I dig my boobs too
    5. My eyelashes and the fact that I don’t have to curl them.

  • BP

Ooohh. You forgot the really good parts; Blue-Green eyes, Freckles on your nose, Boobs, and your eyes and stuff.

  • Five! That’s tough!
    1) My curvy legs
    2) My cute small feet
    3) My thick curly hair – more controlled now that products are available!
    4) My delicate soft hands
    5) Oh Gee, one more……..my new trim figure – hoping it lasts – First time in my whole life I’ve been a size 8!

  • AM

Hmmm…I’d much rather do this when my body returns to normal after the baby, but here we go.
    1. long legs/height
    2. collar bone
    3. cheek bones
    4. hair
    5. my skin (although I would never have said that 15 years ago)

  • Talk to me, Goose.
