This is a compensated review from BlogHer and Wish-Bone.

Yes, you could call me a salad dressing fan. I use it for all sorts of things: veggie dips, chicken wings, pasta salad, sandwich toppings, marinades for grilling and yes, even on actual salad. I also like a little on my cottage cheese but I’m not sure where that fits in. Dairy, perhaps?

When I was little, I used to fill a bowl with croutons, slather them with dressing and call that a salad. Mmmmmm, I can still remember the crunchy goodness. These days, my salads are much healthier but the dressing is still like icing on the cake to me so when I was offered the opportunity to do a Wish-Bone salad dressing review, I said heck yes.

Wishbone Dressings

I loved looking through the cookbook for summer recipe ideas because it just so happens that grilling, sandwiches and salads are my specialty. I make a mean cup of coffee too but that wasn’t one of the categories. I chose a few recipes from the book to make for my family and share my thoughts on the results as well as their reactions with you.

One thing I became aware of almost immediately was that picking out recipes ahead of time, prepping the ingredients and having a plan saves precious time and energy. I know, I know, this should be a given for a mother of two active children but being organized isn’t always my strong suit. I need motivation…and pretty pictures. Wish-Bone helped.

Veggie Kabob Recipe

The first recipe that I tried was for Vegetable Kabobs.

Veggie Prep

It was a snap to prepare especially if you remember to use your handy metal kabob skewers and not the wooden ones that you forgot to pre-soak for 20 minutes. I chopped up yellow peppers, mushrooms, onions and zucchini and placed them in a bag to marinate for a few hours. By dinnertime, all I had left to do was put the veggies onto my skewers and get them on the grill.

Veggie Kabobs

“Delicious as a dressing, Remarkable as a Marinade”

On the Grill

I served them along side sweet and sour grilled chicken and brown rice.

Veggie Kabobs Done

Family Reaction: They loved this recipe. My husband had seconds and my 9 year old, who always struggles with vegetables, ate all of her zucchini and stated that this was the only way she wanted her veggies from now on.

A few days later, I tried two more recipes: The Italian Vegetable Pasta Salad and the Wish-Bone Marinated Chicken 1-2-3.

Pasta Salad Recipe

Again, I marveled at how easy these two were to make ahead of time which allowed for a speedy and wholesome dinner with the family before we raced off to softball practice.

Chicken Recipe

I served the chicken and pasta salad together with a side of carrots and ranch dressing.

Italian Chicken and Pasta Salad

Family Reaction: Total clean plate club. The chicken was incredibly moist and flavorful. The pasta salad was yummy and since I used the Lite Italian dressing in it, I didn’t feel the least bit guilty about enjoying it as much as I did.

Wishbone Italian Pasta Salad

Last night, I made pizza and salad for dinner. I chopped up the leftovers from the previous night’s chicken for our salads.

Family Reaction: Delish.

So, yeah, Wish-Bone salad dressings are good on actual salads, too. My favorite? The Lite Blue Cheese dressing. Usually, lite dressings are like diet cola and by that I mean you know it’s going to taste like diet food. However, I didn’t feel this way about the Lite Blue Cheese…and I love me some blue cheese.

Salad

All in all, I was impressed with both the flavor and ease of these recipes. I look forward to trying more of them throughout the spring and summer months when life is supposed to be carefree but never is.

Now, here’s the fun part:

You love me. You really love me.

  • My favorite Wishbone recipe so far (which we have been using for several years) is simply marinating chicken in Italian vegetables. In addition, we usually will add vegetable kabobs and brush Italian dressing on those. We serve with a baked potato and salad for a great summer meal!

I am looking forward to trying this new Wishbone recipe on the grill!
    http://tightropeoflife.blogspot.com/

  • What perfect timing! With the grilling season upon us, I have been racking my brain to find new and different recipes to try on the grill. We have already used Wishbone Salad Dressings as marinades in the past and our meals were delicious. Our 2 teenage boys loved it and even our picky eater, our preteen daughter ate all of it. She is a “chicken freak” (so we still tell her everything is chicken even though now she is onto us!)

So, I thought we would break her in easy and start with this chicken dish.

I have decided to try the Chicken Satay with Spicy Peanut Sauce. We love to grill on skewers and in addition to grilling the chicken, we will be grilling our favorite vegetable kebobs brushed with Wishbone Italian.

I will let you know how the “crowd” rates it!

  • Ooh, vegetable kabobs sound yummy. Also thinking of the Satay with Peanut Sauce, but no chicken as I’m a vegetarian!

    Cheers!

  • I know I fixed Kabobs similiar to yours and they were an instant family hit. My family also loves to use WishBone Light Italian to make quick and easy stir fry dishes.

  • Mary D

I like to do a lot of veggie grilling out on the grill during the summertime (am a vegetarian, too) so I think I’d especially love to substitute Wish-Bone in place of the butter I typcially use.
For a GREAT grilling treat that taste incredible and is so easy to prepare:
chop a large head of cabbage into 4 quarters and roll tightly in heavy duty foil, turning frequently on the grill so the cabbage lightly carmalizes but does not scorch. Season with Wish-Bone Italian (no butter lol)
this is so healthy and wonderfully tasty!

  • I like the House Italian for salad and the Italian in a cold spaghetti salad

  • Katie

Mmm, I love the ranch dressing on white bread, cut into strips. roll a piece of asparagus in the middle, lightly coat with butter and bake until crispy. SO GOOD.

  • MariaV

I love to use it on pasta. In the summer, it is usually a cold pasta salad with in season vegetables. I prefer the vinaigrettes, but any dressing will work.

  • my favorite way to use salad dressing for cooking (I also love it on salad!) is to marinate chicken breasts in the light italian dressing before throwing them on the grill – it just gives it that little something extra!! mmmm … is it dinner time yet?

  • Rechelle

We are big on grilling in the summer- no heating up the kitchen, and more importantly, no dirty pans !! so Wish Bone Dressings are a staple in our house for marinating meat and veggies-

  • Linda F

I use Wish Bone on our salads which I serve several times per week and also use it as a marinade for meat and as a dressing for vegetables.

  • My favorite recipe I’ve made so far is a rotini pasta salad with rotisserie chicken salad, kalamta olives and artichoke hearts with Italian dressing. Yum!

  • I mix 1 cup of their lite or low-fat Ranch dressing with 1/4 cup of grated Parmesean, 2 cups of leftover grilled or boiled chicken (diced or chopped into 1/2 inch or smaller pieces), and 4-5 cups of shredded romaine lettuce and I get the worlds most fabulous tasting, healthy chicken caesar salad in MINUTES.

This is really important to me because I work a full time job and so does my hubby, so by the time I get home it’s around 5:30 p.m. and I have a starving hubby coming home at 6:00 p.m. and two starved kids waiting for me. It’s nice to be able to cook up great tasting, healthy meals thanks to delicious dressings like this.

    one6ylady(at)aol(dot)com

  • I’m not very creative when it comes to cooking but one of my favorites is also blue cheese dressing! I like to make a salad with Romaine lettuce, walnuts, dried cranberries, pears, blue cheese crumbles and blue cheese dressing. I haven’t tried WishBone Lite Blue Cheese, but I will now! Thank you for the tip. This salad is very easy to make and hopefully adds wishful flavor!

  • I love to use italian dressing in my spaghetti sauce to liven it up
    shopannies@Yahoo.com

  • Mine is simple – marinate skinless chicken breasts in italian dressing overnight. So flavorful and delicious grilled on the grill! And healthy! Can’t beat that.

  • I love using salad dressing to make mashed potatoes. ALl you do is add any dressing to the potatos and it tastes wonderful. I love using ranch and italian. But any will do.

  • michelle rosborough

    I use it on sandwiches

  • Wish-Bone® dressings are a staple in our home. I am posting a link to my blog that includes our favorite family recipe for Venison BBQ using Wish-Bone® Italian dressing. (Its at the end of the Wish-Bone® blog entry)

I always like to think of new and unique ways to use ingredients, and Wishbone dressing is no exception! A good friend shared a simple but delicious recipe for gazpacho that uses Wishbone Italian dressing that tastes terrific – the dressing really adds a nice punch to the soup! Here it is:

    Gazpacho with Wishbone Italian Dressing

    Ingredients:
    1 cup Wishbone Italian Dressing
    1 large bottle V8 – Vegtable Juice
    1 Green Pepper
    1/2 Cucumber
    Cilantro
    1 large tomato
    Cracked Pepper
    Shrimp (optional)

    1. Pour all of the v8 into a large pan.
    2. Dice the green pepper and toss out the seeds.
    3. Dice cucumber
    4. Cut up tomato into chunks
    5. Dice cilantro
    6. Toss all of the veggies in pan
    7. Put in dressing to taste. I did a little over a cup.
    8. Put pepper in to taste.

Chill for 24 hours. Put in shrimp before you serve if you wish. Garnish with cucumber slices. Eat cold!
