Our Jazzercise Center is participating in a friendly little weight loss competition that began last week. It is appropriately called Jazz It Off!
And I need to jazz off my spare tire. Can I pinch an inch? Don’t ask…
The program is based on The Biggest Loser show. You weigh in each week with a partner and after 12 weeks the group with the highest percentage of weight loss wins.
The customers are paired in groups of two but a few of us instructors had a different idea. We decided it would interesting to have an Instructor vs. Class Manager Challenge. I said we should vote someone off each week but that would lead to issues so really, bragging rights is the grand prize. That and muffin top removal. Hell, I’ll take it.
Week 1 Results Total CM Starting Weight = 1307.5 lbs.
(# of CMs reporting: 8)
Total CMs Ending Weight =1288 lbs.
Total lost = 19.5 lbs
Total Percentage Lost = 1.49%Total Instructors Starting Weight = 975.9 lbs.
(# of Instructors reporting: 7)
Total Instructors Ending Weight = 961 lbs.
Total lost = 14.9 lbs
Total Percentage Lost = 1.52% (WINNERS WEEK 1)
My results: -1 lb.
Since I’m in charge of the totals each week, I thought I’d keep track of them here so you can yell at me when I eat cookies. (Which I won’t be doing because I gave them up for Lent. All sweets and fast food, in fact.)
Anyway, it’s all in good fun and in preparation for bathing suit season which is right around the corner (HOLY CRAP).

I keep looking but I don’t see any spare tire!!
A little at a time is just fine!
You KNOW what I have am successfully doing – Weight Watchers since last Fall and have lost a total of 15!!!! Ya Hoo!! I’ll be very happy to lose another 8-10 by summer – that’s my goal.
I’m doing a Biggest Loser type competition with a group of 12 women friends. We started Feb. 1 and going until June 1. So far I’ve lost about 9 or 10 lbs, but I won’t be sure until the weigh in this weekend. It’s the first time my husband and I have been on the same page about losing weight and it’s making a huge difference.
And I’m giving up chocolate for Lent. That’s the ultimate self-denial for me.
Congrats on the challenge. My sister and I are doing something similar, but she has much more to lose than I do and has been dropping huge numbers the last month. I swear that last 5lbs is the worst.
I think your spare tire is all in your imagination.
I wrote an entire post of what I’m *not* giving up. But for what I did give up, ice cream. But I’m making up for it with Thin Mints. Yes, the Girl Scouts pulled through for me this year!
Hey look! your done!! your already at MY goal weight!!!
I’m behind you 100% rooting for the red team!
I decided to give up burgers. I think it’s going to be harder than it should be considering I’ve recently discovered sheer JOY in the Five Guys Burgers & Fries that opened down the street.
Maybe I should give up French Fries instead? Is it too late to change my mind? Crud.
That sounds like fun. I wish I could participate on my own, but I just had to go and get knocked up, dangit!
If you want to see a spare tire, you need come to Chez PunditMom, and I am NOT talking about what’s in he garage. Having said that, I need a big kick in the you know what to get into shape.
I also gave up sweets for Lent. I’ve been counting calories recently using the LiveStrong app for my iPhone. It seems to be helping. I have to get ready for swimsuit season too!
You look great to me. Where’s the spare tyre?
Um, what spare tire? I wish mine looked that good.
