Flu Survival Tools

Thursday, January 29th 2009

Last January, my family was hit by the flu HARD. My daughter, husband and I lost weeks of our life lying on our backs thinking we were about to die. Back then, I wasn’t armed with the proper tools to deal with the horrid influenza – the best being a preventative flu shot which I made sure we all got this go round.

Lucky for us, no one has fallen ill this season but I know it’s only a mater of time. When you have kids, you have to expect it and as I learned the hard way last year, it’s much better to be prepared. Here are a few of my favorite products & resources:

Now Moms Can Trust Their Ear ThermometerEar Thermometer

The Braun ThermoScan ExacTemp Ear Thermometer is the fastest and most accurate way to take an ear temperature measurement – even in the middle of the night with a sick, fidgety child. This advanced thermometer features patented ExacTemp technology, a heated tip and positioning guidance system used by pediatricians and hospitals worldwide. Proven more accurate than rectal and temple measurements, the Braun ThermoScan ExacTemp Ear Thermometer is the ideal choice for first-time parents.

Vicks Germ Free Humidifier*New* Vicks Germ Free Humidifier – kills 99.999% of bacteria

The new Vicks Germ Free Warm Mist Humidifier features a patented UV light chamber that kills up to 99.999% of bacteria, mold and spores in the water vapor that enters the air, offering more protection for families. Pediatricians recommend running a humidifier to help soothe cough symptoms and clear stuffed up noses, especially important for children whose smaller nostrils get stuffed up more easily.

Also, be sure to check out a mom-friendly, board-certified, Washington D.C. based MommyDocs , an online duo, who have dedicated their careers to tried-and-true child health care. Their cold and flu tips can be found at Cold & Flu Central.

And as a constant, we bathe in anti-bacterial gel every night before bed. Sure, it’s slimy but the alternative is MUCH worse! Be healthy. xo

You love me. You really love me.

  • Those are genius. I got the ear thermometer and am loving it, but unfortunately I opted for the frog-shaped humidifier before you told me about this one.
