She’s 9

Monday, July 21st 2008

Today my baby is 9 years old. According to her, this means that pretty soon she’ll be driving. Today we’re taking her to Malibu in Redwood City since we’re still in SF and they don’t let you ride the horses at the zoo (yes, she asked).

Tomorrow, we head back to Virginia - to Eastern Standard Time, a broken air conditioner that I didn’t have time to service before we left, to wedding pictures that need editing, to blog posts that need to be written, to a 2 week’s worth stack of mail I need to sort, to big, slobbery dogs that think we have abandoned them, to a slumber party for 10 girls that I need to prep for on the fly, and to the heat. Oh, how I haven’t missed the heat.

Today, I’m looking for time to slow down a bit so I can savor my daughter’s birthday…and this delicious city just a little bit longer.

If you really love me, feed me in your reader!

You love me. You really love me. Dontchya?

  • Slumber party for 10 girls! Good lord, woman!

I say High School Musical, ice cream sundae buffet, and ear plugs for you.

Happy Birthday to your 9-year-old teenager. I have one, too. I love 9. It’s really a wonder year between kidhood and teendom. The magic is still there, but they can articulate it better.

  • Have fun today. I remember when she was six and Rachel was four. The years between five and 10 seem to fly don’t they.

We’ll be bringing our friend Melissa back to the city this morning on the Ferry. Not sure if I’m up to the trip home with the three kids all by myself, but I love the water too much to care.

    xo

  • Happy birthday to her! What a fun way to spend her birthday.

I just have to say, enjoy the cool weather because I’m back in the land of heat and humidity and it SUCKS!

  • Can you believe how fast they grow up? My niece is 12 (12 going on 30) in just a couple of months and already she has a cell phone (gasp), does her hair, wears skirts and cute shoes and carries a little purse crammed with stuff. Yet she can still curl up in my lap and tell me how much she misses me. Awww!

Many happy wishes to your daughter (9 going on 16).

  • Malibu in Redwood City rocks! I spent many nights there during my middle and high school years. It’s all about the mini-golf! Hope you had a great day!

  • Of course she asked, I’d expect no less from the off-spring of an amazing individual like you.

And I have a suspicion that someday, she will be riding those horses.

May all of her dreams come true.
