Stolen

Last Monday, Nana went back into the hospital. The doctors at Walter Reed decided to keep her to make sure that she recovered from the surgery they had to perform to remove a skin infection that had developed.

What was taken from her while she was in surgery is unforgivable. You can read the story here.

If you really love me, feed me in your reader!

You love me. You really love me. Dontchya?

  • OMG that is horrible. I would be on the phone with all the pawn shops within a 100 mile radius!!!! Oh, that is just so horrible!!!! Is it insured? I hope so.

  • That’s so awful to hear about that.

  • That is terrible! Your Nana’s precious ring - a family heirloom.

If they knew they were having a problem with theft, why didn’t they say something upfront? She could have passed them to a family member (I assuming she didn’t go to the hospital alone).

    So sorry!

  • If it’s any consolation, we had a case just like that at Grady Hospital here in Atlanta a few weeks ago. The bastard stole the rings of a woman who died in the hospital after a traffic accident. Her husband pursued the case until they found the culprit; and he was able to lead them to the pawn shop where he had sold that jewelry and the jewelry of others he had stolen at the hospital. Everyone got their stuff back. I pray such grace for your grandmother!

  • Well, that just bites, sucks, and really is unforgivable.

  • I hope that person that stole it gets exactly what’s coming to them. I can’t believe someone would be so heartless.

  • That is absolutely disgusting and terrible. I am so sorry that happened to her. I really do hope they catch the thief.

  • This INFURIATES me. I have been in your place (with my grandfather) and it’s heart-wrenching. I am so, so sorry.

People suck ass. You have to keep watch 24/7 or else..

  • Kimberly, I left a post over on the other blog, but feel I should put it here too: this is the kind of story that has Washington Post and WTOP written all over it. I would seriously publicize it - perhaps someone will see it and feel badly enough to return the ring. At least there’s a chance you could help them change their procedures by bringing it to light, so no other patients have a similarly awful experience.

Poor, poor thing. Makes me wanna cry.

  • Several years ago I ended up having emergency surgery… the nurse prepping me pointed to my rings and asked, “Are those real?” and when I answered in the affirmative she TAPED them to my finger!

    I guess that’s as a good a last minute plan as any…

I am sorry about your grandmother’s ring… sentiment like that is irreplaceable.

Hello, My computer has been down and I haven’t had a chance to stop by. It sounds rather hectic here in Petroville. I only got to read a few past posts. I am so upset about the story of your NANA. I tell my patient’s families to take everything of value home with them. Things get lost rather then stolen. People (Staff) are not so mindful as past days. I am so sorry this had to happen. Have fun at the shower.
