My Friends Sell T-Shirts

Saturday, May 31st 2008

Last Sunday, my best friend from 9th grade came over with her family to eat food not baked or microwaved but cooked on only one half of the grill. They were very nice about it too.

Jen and I were goofy, boy-crazy 14 year olds when we met in the Oxon Hill HS Science & Tech program as freshmen (my only year K-12 away from the nuns). We quickly became friends that morphed into wanna be twins. We loved Tom Cruise (we both still know every line to Top Gun), dressing alike and making up dance routines…oh, and boys. Did I mention boys?

After freshmen year, we both switched schools and gradually lost track of each other. We found each other a few years ago on classmates.com and have been sending Christmas cards ever since but have yet to reunite due to both of us usually being on opposite sides of the country.

On Mother’s Day, as I was driving home in the flooding, pouring, end-of-the-world rain that we had, I got a phone call on my cell. It was Jen. We haven’t spoken on the phone in years but talking to her was like I had just done it yesterday. Those are my favorite friends.

Here we are in all our mid-thirty glory. We’re still hot, right? We could totally throw down a mean dance routine to “Danger Zone” if we wanted to, I bet.

Jen now runs a really cool site called Adoption Mama. Check it out.

The Adoption Mama Philosophy

This is the place to find shirts designed for you- the fun, witty, hip, stylish, and, yes, even sassy, mommy. We are all about wearing our heart on our sleeve, or our thought on our shirt…as the case may be!

Our designs help answer some of the questions we get as adoptive moms, and also help us express our happiness and joys. We believe shirts for adoptive mamas can still be stylish too- NO unisex boxy shirts allowed!

So welcome… you are now an ADOPTION MAMA! Enough talk…Now it’s time to shop!

I think it’s funny that we both ended up online in one way or another as moms. It’s also interesting that I tend to gravitate toward women that sell t-shirts. Perhaps I have a fixation?

Speaking of which…

Last night was the Mommy Needs a Cocktail Sex & the City Party. That’s a mouthful, right? I got to hang with star power like Angie Felton, the beautiful Alabama sisters (Deven, you rock), delightful De who started a mojito-drinking craze, Miss California and FINALLY Mary.

I say finally because I have been talking to Mary online for years and years (like 2 or 3!) and have invited her to a million parties at my house (again, like 2 or 3) and she has always been unable to attend. I told her last night as I was hugging her tiny waist that next the next time I have a party, I am going to roll by her house “Old School” style with a van and a stocking cap to pick her up.

I think she gets it.

Here are the only two pictures I took last night before my battery died.

Since Kristen always LOVES the pictures I post of her online, I knew she’d love this one of her loving the spinach and artichoke dip.

It was a blast, of course and as usual.

Sell t-shirts? Talk to me. I want to be your friend.

  • Well, I’m confused. I think there is a Susie Sunshine and a Sunshine. One is in Michigan on crack and one is in Iowa tattooing people with crystals. Huh.
