Sing. Sing a Song.

I’m down by JMU for my daughter’s All-State Chorus practice and performance weekend. My near 13 year old and I both have a little spring-fever-playing-hooky feeling going on. She actually is missing school while I’m just missing out on feeding the dogs, cooking, dishes, laundry, what’s left of my mulch pile and did I mention the dishes?

Yeah, it’s nice having a break from the routine.

And I’m pretty sure we’re bonding. We sure as hell are shopping and eating enough to make us feel/look like we’ve been on a cruise – minus the tan.

Last night, I gave her a lesson in bargain shopping. We hit Ross and Payless and she could not believe how far her (ok…my) money went. We got her chorus essentials, a black knee length skirt and one inch black heels, all for under $10. Those are lessons they don’t teach you in school. So, I guess you could say I’m a homeschooler now. Heh.

The rehearsals are LONG – 3 and 4 hours. Many of the (good) parents stay and listen while heathens like me scout out grassy meadows to read delicious vampire tales while sipping iced skinny lattes. I know. It’s a tough life.

Speaking of vampire novels, I’m on Eclipse and seriously can’t breath. Some books totally zombify me which makes me feel like a dorkwad…but not enough to care.

The moms are all like, “Oh, is that what your daughter is reading? Mine too!”

I think I would be an excellent vampire, by the way. Someone (ok…Edward) should bite me soon, though. 35 is right around the corner and I’m feeling mighty old in this here college town.

  • OK, so you are a hot chick that is an exercise instructor, professional shopper, gothic vampire novel reader, super mom that is not too rabidly stage-mom about her kid’s performances. You are the ultimate woman…and you look 10 years younger. OK, my son wants to click some fun little animated guys: ENOUGH Charlie!!

  • Nothing quite like college towns to make us feel our age, huh?

While I think I’d be a crap-tastic vampire, I would love to fly. And develop fangs at a moments notice. Cause I could use some lately. Not to hurt anyone or anything, but just for scare purposes.

    Honest, I swear.

  • yeah, so my son read those books…mainly because he’s dating the author’s friend…who is published as well.
Why are these little punks catching all the breaks when truly brilliant authors are overlooked.
    yes, I’m bitter.
Nah – I’m kidding – these kids do a good job.

  • I love Ross too. And cheesy books, especially the bodice ripping type. It’s so nice to let my brain go to mush while reading instead of having to think about the material.
