My good deed for Friday was a phone call to my Nana. No reason. Just to say hello.
I should have been prepared for her ill mood as my mother is off on a cruise and not paying her the proper attention. She has no one to lash out at when my mom’s not in tongue-slapping range.
She lectured me on the price of stamps, gasoline and filled me in on the celebrity life of my aunt who is now (brace yourself) taking over the position of Building Manager at their condo complex. This came up after I mentioned that my husband was on television a few weeks ago when his company rang the closing bell on Wall Street. To her, the fame level equates.
Not that she actually believed me, mind you. She feels that if he was on TV and she didn’t see it, it may not have occurred.
What channel?
Um, well, I saw it on 4 but it…
Well, Kimberly, I watch channel 4 and I didn’t see it.
Oh, well it was during the financial section and he wasn’t on long.
Hmmmmm…
Like I’m lying or something. Whatever, woman! I’m just trying to give you something to brag about during your bridge game.
So, I really feel like I did a good deed on Leap Day. I took one for the team and let her piss me off. Hopefully, Nana is worn down from that exchange enough to be nice to my mother when she calls her tomorrow.
But let’s not hold our breath.
Somehow I feel comforted that I was not the only person in the world with a bitchy grandmother.
