Turkey Day Cometh

Are you ready?

Thanksgiving sure sprung up quick this go round. Wow, and I’m not even worried about it. I’m not used to being so calm about a holiday.

Here in Petroville, we’ve hosted both Thanksgiving and Christmas since 2003 which has been a joy-filled stress ball for a control freak like me. The end of year usually finds me tense beyond measure, seeking a calgon moment in my secret stash of fat free spiked eggnog.

Not this year, folks. This Thanksgiving, my sister and her fiancé are hosting the holiday.

I don’t have to cook.

I don’t have to clean.

I don’t have to stress.

But most of all, I don’t have to look like this…

…at least until December 23rd.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Your turn: How do you deal with holiday stress? Are you hosting this year?

And yes, that is a picture of me in the middle of a full on I’m calling this whole f#cking thing off panic moment in the week before Christmas 2003. Shut up.

If you really love me, feed me in your reader!

You love me. You really love me. Dontchya?

  • I’m glad you will be getting a rest this holiday. We’ll put you in the chair next to the grandmother (may be the only other chair - ha!) and you two and direct, correct, snooze and booze - not necessarily in that order. See you Thursday!!!

  • I hosted Thanksgiving ONCE. And I was so stupid to volunteer for it. We didn’t even have a dishwasher back then. I’ll NEVER EVER EVER host Thanksgiving again. And now I do have a dishwasher. :-)

  • LOL!! I don’t sweat it anymore - especially since I only have my parents coming over and they know what my house looks like on a daily basis… We are going over there this year. Christmas - Mr. and I have to cook. But it really doesn’t matter…. It’s only family. If they don’t think it is clean enough, they can clean it until it matches their level of expectation….

    Have a happy Turkey Day!!!

  • AM

I am so glad that you can relax this year. I hope you enjoy the holiday off. I am excited, nervous, and very worried about the lack of space but hopefully it will all work out. Can’t wait to see you on Thursday!

  • No, since we moved here 4 years ago. We have a relative who LOVES to host. She doesn’t just say so, she LOVES the Holidays. Last year when she got out her Christmas stuff from the attic, she had 25 boxes, not including light strings. I have 4 boxes including lights.

  • We are hosting this time. Most everything is precooked in the freezer or at least to the point it only need to go into the dish and into the oven. Today is pie baking day. Getting started as soon as I finish this cup of coffee. Happy Thanksgiving, Kim! Have a wonderful day.

  • I’m always hosting but there’s just the six of us so we just slide on through.
    Cheers

  • I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, but I’m familiar with the whole holiday prep thing. Recently for Eid, we had to shop for groceries, cook for a few hundred people, and had to entertain people the whole day as they came and went throughout. :S It was a lot of fun, but it’s so tiring!

  • Wine. And beer. And more wine and beer. Excuse me…I need to go pop a top.

  • Chrissy

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Miss E

LIke you I host both Christmas and Thanksgiving every year. 11 adults and 6 kids. Yesterday our oven broke. Good thing my husband was planning on smoking the turkey!

  • Great photo. I know that feeling.

My father-in-law is doing Turkey this year. I think I’m up Christmas Eve, but my Dad hasn’t passed the official torch yet. I think he’s having a hard time giving the tradition to the next generation. Mom’s friend does Christmas Day which is always fantastic. I think we’re in good shape, but I bet if you ask me on December 26th, you’ll get a different answer!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Not having Thanksgiving here I have only Christmas to ‘do’ - and this year, so long as I can get Mum to back off, I will be doing the dinner…

I feel like I’ve been planning it for years!

  • The only way we can get out of hosting is to go out of plan, so that’s what we’re doing this year. Woo-hoo.

I don’t mind the cooking. I get tired of the hosting everyone’s baggage, if you know what I mean.

  • My mom is here visiting so it is a joint effort.
    Gobble Gobble
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  • So is that you sitting in that chair? Where’s the sister’s house? Did you have to travel? What do you do with your humongous dogs when you travel?

Hope you had a good day!
