In February of 2006, we popped the champagne and rolled out the red carpet for you to pat one another on the backside. Here we are today still lavishing in the good feeling of such a supportive community. Our mission statement has been simple and we like it that way. The Perfect Post Awards are a chance to read some of the best stuff written each month- and to spread a little warm fuzziness, too. WhyMommy for Breaking Anonymity: My Name is Susan

Susan, aka Sam, aka WhyMommy, is battling inflammatory breast cancer. Beyond that, Susan is many things. She is a mother. She is a friend. She is a warrior. You may already be aware of her very personal fight for survival but until this week, you didn’t know her real name.

WhyMommy says, “My blog, and now my words here on DC Metro Moms Blog, have taken over a good part of my life and eventually become a chronicle of my fight with breast cancer. They have occupied many (too many?) of my waking thoughts and been an oasis in busy days of appointments and tasks, as well as in quiet days of rest and cuddles. This activity has become more than an “it.” It has become a “you.”

And that’s why I decided to “come out” and use my real name in the media interviews broadcast yesterday and published today.”

Please take the time today to give yourself a breast exam. Do it for your kids. Do it for your friends. Do it for all of the heroes out there like Susan.
