Hey! I was on the radio yesterday morning giving my opinion about the new reality show Kid Nation. Hop, skip and jump on over to the DC Metro Moms Blog and read the details.
I’m so hardly almost barely famous.
If you really love me, feed me in your reader!
haha! I did a bit on Kid Nation on my radio show tonight.
I am doubtful that I would let my kids appear on a show like that. There are way too many question marks. Based on what I’ve read, the show seems exploitive. I haven’t seen the show, so I may change my mind. I certainly think 8 year olds are way, way, way too young. If I had an older child who really wanted to do it, then I might reconsider. It would have to be their idea, and it would have to be an enormous passion of theirs.
I thought it was pretty good. these kids seem waaay more mature than a lot of the kids I know their age. My husband and I kept noticing the verbiage they would use and the way they would speak. It is a lot like going away to a really roughing it Summer Camp. What did you think?
I watched a portion of it; so did my kids. Watching the little 8 year old wail was enough for me to pull the plug. (In the short time I watched, several kids cried.)
Would I let my kids have an adventure, stretch themselves? Sure. But I wouldn’t let them be manipulated like lab rats for ratings.
I don’t know really what ‘Kid Nation’ is, but you did a good interview, Kim.
I haven’t seen it. It’s not like Animal Farm, is it?
I watched it with my two kids (10 & almost 7) and we totally loved it. I was impressed by the kids that they chose, most that they featured seemed to have good heads on their shoulders…
