Pool Party Phood & Me

Monday, May 21st 2007

We’re having a little pool party here this weekend and I’m stressing about the menu. It’s going to be mostly work folks and hopefully my family *cough, sisters - you’d better come, cough* in attendance. I’m guessing we’ll end up with about 30 people.

I’ve never had a pool party before. Today I started to think about snack ideas but kept coming up with things like deviled eggs which are really not patio-in-the-blazin-sun friendly. And chips are so boring - esp. w/o sour cream and onion dip. Why is everything yummy have to be kept chilled?

Any good and easy ideas for me? Did I mention easy? Yeah, thanks.

I’m adding a meme to the back end of this yawner because I need a little oouupmff in my game tonight. In case your wondering, that is indeed like junk in your trunk. We all need it sometimes.

The first rule of the game is to post the rules of the game. (I like that one.) Mary tagged me but she didn’t mean to so I won’t hold it against her.

* Each player starts with eight random facts/habits.
* People who are tagged need to write posts on their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
* At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.

Here we go…

1) I have a new compulsion to buy things to plant in my yard. I cannot drive by a nursery with out a mental battle that has my mind racing through my schedule to see if I have time to stop. As a result, there is a lot of dirt in my car.

2) I have very bad vision and really want to have that corrective laser deal. I’m chicken shit though. I absolutely think they should put you out for it. Who wants to be awake for a laser in your eye? Geeeeez.

3) Whenever I read a good book, I act like the main character a for a few weeks after I finish it. Not totally, of course, but I take things and embed them into my life.

4) I no longer enjoy watching movies unless it’s a reeeeeeeaaaalllllly funny one. But no dramas, please.

5) Sometimes I think I am a better dog owner than a mother.

6) I find that I do not enjoy many of the things that I used to take pride in such as wrapping presents, balancing my checkbook and organization in general. I really could care less. If you’re wondering who sent the gift wrapped in comic paper and masking tape, that was me.

7) I’m becoming a pretty good jazzercise instructor but I have to stop myself from joking around too much. For some reason I feel like a high kicking stand up comic when I’m up there. It’s really bad when they don’t laugh.

8) I need more sleep. That’s my number 8 because I totally published this before I got there. See, Monty. Now you’re it. Heh.

And 7 more of you too. The next 7 who comment are tagged. I can see you (I wear contacts) so don’t try to hide.

MommaK out.

If you really love me, feed me in your reader!

Yikes, that is tricky. Maybe some pudding snack packs, they seem to do well in any temperature I can bring whatever you need.

  • What happened to #s 7&8? hehe

  • Oh my god, I just dragged the girls to Target an hour ago, and bought 120 dollars worth of plants/flowers for a cutting flower garden on the side of my yard. 120 at Target is two carts very full.

Did I mention I had two girls with me 1.2 hour from their bedtime?

And About the eyes…I have very bad eyes and would like lazer surgery but my mom’s family has such crappy eyes in general, I worry my retina would tear or something.

  • I’m so jealous that you can even think about a pool party when it has barely broken 60 all weekend.

How about salsa and tortilla chips? Marinated olives? Hummus and pita bread. . .different kinds of nuts. . .those tall skinny bread sticks (I also love deviled eggs but I see what you mean about the heat).

Ok, now I’m hungry. Have fun and a beer for me!

  • I have a really great summer grape salad recipe I just posted on my other blog. You’d have to put the bowl in another bowl of ice but it really is soooo easy and yuuummmmmyyyy. I’ll send you the recipe.

As for #3, I’m so glad I’m not the only one! I have the worst time after I read some books ’cause I take on attributes and speaking styles. LOL. That’s why I stopped reading murder novels. JUST KIDDING. Now that I listen to most of my book I don’t ‘adapt’ the character as much because the narrator does such a wonderful job of making the book come to life.

    Have a great party!!!

  • Here’s the recipe for the grape salad

  • Sorry, but anybody who has the ABILITY to have a POOL party gets no sympathy from me!!

  • I don’t want sympathy!! I want recipies thankyouverymuch :P

  • EASY dessert..did I mention easy.
Get a pan…rectangular will work fine. You don’t want to do dishes? Get one of those dispossable aluminum foil roaster pans.
You also need a box of ice cream sandwhiches; tub of cool whip, jar of caramel sauce and some heath bar candy (in a bag already broken up). You can buy all of this at the grocery store.
Step One: Open the box of ice cream sandwhiches, open every one of them and line the bottom of the pan.
Step Two: Open the jar of caramel sauce and sprinkle generously over the top.
Step Three: Sprinkle 3/4 of the chopped up candy..heath is good but use what you want.
Step Four: Spread cool whip all over the top.
Step Five: Sprinkle the rest of the candy.
Step Six: Cover w/ foil and put in the freezer.

Let it freeze, make it a day ahead…whatever. Next day you can take it out while it’s rock solid set it out side and let people scoop it out. Easy, fast and YUMMO!

You can make it more healthy, low fat stuff, sugar free etc.

  • Grill stuff! Hots, sausages, burgers… and chips! Macaroni salad on ice…

It’s warm enough for a pool party in VA? I’m jealous!

  • Elynn

    Hello!!

I lurk, and now I post

Pinwheel wraps. cream cheese, turkey and tomatoes, wrapped in tortillas. You then slice them like a jelly roll cake.refrigerate them whole (unsliced) the day before and your golden.

Hummus and pita, Olives, and Tabouli. All keep great no frig. Hot dogs and hamburgers, grilled veggies. I like to make veggie kabobs.

Fruit plate, and or veggie plate, you can choose to add dip or not later.

    All pretty healthy too!

  • Recipes? Salsa - chopped fresh tomatoes, a little fried red onion, chopped rocket and some roasted red pepper. Mix and serve with anything from chicken to chips to pasta.
Ooo and don’t forget to do a vodka watermelon!

  • Hmm, let me see. Pool party in America! Wouldn’t that be a barbeque too then? Isn’t that what you [sorry, we] Americans do best?
Failing that, howabout wedges of watermelon [assuming you have functioning teeth] or fruit kebabs [guests to assemble their own]
I’ve never had one, but I really like the idea of those jolly old American ‘pot lucks’ that way everyone gets to eat what they like! but what would I know, darned foreigners.
    Cheers
