Today you are 12. During this last calendar year, you have moved into your 9th house, started attending middle school, lost almost every ounce of baby fat, had a full round of rabies shots, travelled out of the country for the first time and began shaving your legs. You and I wear the same shoe size and pretty soon you’ll be taller than me.
You are a very strong girl at 12. You have a kind heart, brilliant mind and one of the most beautiful smiles on this earth. You also roll your eyes, spend entirely too much time in your room and fight with your sister over nothing. You like to try new and exotic foods, read 3 books at a time and have a very cool tweener style.
You are a really fast runner, a good soccer player and one hell of a young writer. You think deeply, love greatly and have an amazing sense of humor. You have mastered the art of sarcasm at such a young age that it scares me to death. Not sure where you got that from.
You have attended many school dances with your friends but have yet to dance with a boy. You IM, iPod, and YouTube. You have made new friends, gotten good grades and also your first detention.
You are learning about the choices that face you in life. You are finding that people will not always believe you and that life is not always fair. It hurts to watch you make mistakes and I struggle over whether or not to fight your battles, pick your friends and steer you through every slippery spot in the road. And I know that this is just the beginning…
I can’t believe my baby, that I had when I was barely grown, is now 12 years old. It seems like just yesterday that you were kicking my ribs and giving me heartburn.

I am so proud of the young lady you’ve become.
I love you - always and forever.
Mom

So beautiful. Sniff.
The time goes by so fast. Sigh.
Happy Birthday!
That is a fantastic picture. And the way it compliments what you have written…all metaphorically…..you are supercool!
Happy Birthday!!

Ooh ooh ooh ::waves arm wildly::: I know where she got the sarcasm!!
Happiest Birthday little big girl. :lovestruck:
What a sweet tribute.
I remember 12…I didn’t think life could ever get any more difficult than 12. Kids can be so mean…and you feel you know EVERYTHING.
That should be amazing watching someone live through 12 w/ the knowledge that you have. Eat cake and be merry!
What a lovely letter! I hope she has a great birthday!
Beautiful picture. Happy Birthday to her! :yahoo:
Happy Birthing Day, MommaK! Happy Birthday, C!
Awww! Happy birthday to your sweet first-born…
That was so special! I can’t believe that 12 years has flown by so quickly. She is an amazing person and you are a fantastic mother.

Gee whiz; this must be someone you know….really well.
What a very special person she has become and I’m in awe of her grace and beauty each time I see her. I’m looking forward to giving her a big birthday hug this weekend! :lovestruck:
Good job Momma K!
Happy birthday to the gentle, striking young person that impressed me when I had the pleasure to meet two years ago.
Happy Birthday to your beautiful girl.
Happy Birthday! She sounds like a great daughter.

Hi, what a fantastic blog!! LOVE LOVE!!!
People used to tell me “they grow up soo fast”, and I used to think, oh sure. Well, I’m here to tell you, they were right. My baby just turned 18 and will be graduating from High School next weekend!! And my oldest is now 20. That is beyond mind-boggling and depressing as well!! I guess that means we are old, doesn’t it??(dont answer)..
am going to head right on over to bloggerschoice and vote for this blog. Its wonderful being nominated, isnt it?? I hope everyone votes for you!!
Congrats!!
Happy Birthday! :yahoo:
That was an amazing post mommak. Made me get all teary, especially knowing how quick mine are growing up.
Love that photo. What a wonderfully written letter. SO sweet.
Oh that was sweet!!! Happy Belated Birthday to her!!!
I was at a dinner the other night to honor a bride and groom and the host read a poem to the young couple and said that in Europe people used to give poems as presents. A post like this should suffice, no?
(uh, no, marvelous 12 would say to that)
That is something, and I love the photo, too. Happy birthday to your baby, and to you! I think every child’s birthday is also the mother’s birthday in a way.
So sweet! Happy Birthday to her…
Awwww….that is so sweet. I hope you let her read it.
Happy Birthday to your girl.
What a great tribute to your daughter. They do grow so fast!!
Beautifully written from a mother to a daughter. The picture is perfect.
What a touching tribute. I’m sure the past 12 years have flown by! My daughter is only 5 but I know if I blink too long, she’ll become a teenager. *sniff*
