Sissy Got Sparkled

Last weekend, my sister was proposed to
by her boyfriend and living-in-sin mate of 3 years.

He got down on one knee by the beautiful waters of Baltimore and asked her to be his wife.

She said “Oh, hell yes.”

I think he did a mighy fine job on picking out The Ring.
Don’t you?

How were you proposed to? However many years later, do you still love your ring?

If you really love me, feed me in your reader!

You love me. You really love me. Dontchya?

  • Awwww! Congrats to your sister! What a beautiful ring! :yahoo:

  • May she have many many years of lawfully bedded bliss!
    The waters of the Baltimore????

It wasn’t that long ago for me and it was a lovely, funny, sweet and tearful proposal, down on bended knee and I remember every detail with pleasure.

The ring. The ring. Well- we don’t do big god looking rocks over here. 5-7 years ago the problems with conflict diamonds were just coming into the press more and more and confirmed my belief that diamonds were contributing to serious bad mojo in the world. (I’l stop before I start, and add that that is not the rule these days as laws have been passed that have made conflict diamonds ilegal.)

Also, we’re cheap. I have, however, the most beautiful deep blue tanzanite we picked out together on a trip to Mexico. It’s lovely and over the past few years Rich has gotten me earrings, etc. to match. It does have 4 tiny diamond chips, one of which is flawed but I liked the blue sone so well we got it knowing that one is flawed. The four chips are one for each of our two children and we have a running joke about which child is the flawed diamond this week…

So just this little post triggered lots of memoried and feelings. You’re good, Momma K. Even if Miz S says you’re bad. Have a great weekend and again, congrats to the sister.

  • big GOOD looking rocks, not God looking. Yeesh

  • Beautiful ring … Best Wishes to her ! :yahoo:

  • Woah, that’s a big rock. Is it real? Did she test it?

    :p

Congratulations to your sis! Has she set the date? I did these really neat Save The Date cards for my girlfriend, they’re getting married on the luckiest day of the year, 7/7/07! (Just in case she didn’t know that was happening this year!)

My guy is a big turkey, so I’m not going into “the proposal”. I will tell you that I got a marquis cut, I live to regret that choice every day - that sucker is sharp at the points. I want to change it out eventually to an emerald cut. I keep hurting people with this thing!

  • God! Vicki totally ratted me out!

Congratulations to your sister. As a Maryland girl, born and bred, I think Baltimore is a lovely place for a proposal. It’s romantic in a funky kind of way.

Josh proposed to me on a beautiful evening in early summer after I had cooked him a delicious dinner. We were lying in our Bed of Sin, looking out the window at a froth of pink blossoms on a flowering tree outside. It was very romantic. We were young and poor, and there was no diamond ring.

  • AWESOME! I bet she’s totally excited! When I got my engagement ring, I drove around all the next day playing “Dancing Queen” by ABBA and staring at it. I’ve decided that’s the best engagement ring song there is! :giggle:

  • I was proposed to on 3/4/5 my ring is still awesome - he had it custom made - he rocks like that.

  • Oh I love it!
I just upgraded my ring last year and wanted the square cut (Princess? Or I really like the Asscher cut!) We had to trade in at the same store and they had no such thing in the “reasonable” price range.
It seems this last year EVERYONE is getting the square cuts and I’m SO jealous. Oh well.

  • Ka-chow!

Hooray & congrats to your sis!! Yeah for the wedding planning stories to follow…

I still love my ring. It’s perfect, as was the engagement “event.” I’m sure I blogged on it… I’ll have to look it up. I was in sweatpants & hadn’t even showered, but my hub was showered & shaved and had even put on a nice shirt. Of course if I knew that morning walk would be when it would happen, I’d have showered first too! DOH!

    So um,

My then-b/friend bought my engagement ring while I was home visiting my parents at Christmas.

    He showed all my girlfriends.

My girlfriends, terrified I would say no, and hoping to prepare me, called me to tell me said boyfriend bought me an engagement ring (okay we did only know each other for a month)

He then called me and I pretended i didn’t know.

Then, when I got back, he took me for a romantic weekend down to San Diego.

He WAS going to propose to me at some restaurant, however… him being him…

instead proposed to me driving 75 mph to San Diego on the freeway.

I ‘dug’ the ring out of his backpack pocket.

I still can’t believe I got engaged on the southbound freeway lol.

    It’s 11 years in April.

  • Yippee!!

    Pretty hand; pretty ring!

  • Wooooooooooooohooooooo!
    Congratulations!
    Beautiful!
    Wow!

    Have a wonderful day!

  • I’m just dropping back to read comments and really, whoever wrote that first one couldn’t get a single sentence straight. Spelling! Grammar! Ban that woman!

  • Beautiful ring! I adore my ring because it’s so different. Of course, I’ve had sized a few times in 17 years, ahem.

While this is just beautiful, it brings up a sort of dread in my stomach. Those shiny things lead to weddings… which leads to dresses… which leads to me in a dress and that will lead Wende to the gym. I don’t wanna go to the gym. Darn it! (My brother is getting set to propose.) Everywhere I turn the universe is conspiring to make me work out, and I’m having nothing of it.

Because, you know, it’s all about me.

  • Great ring, great news. I love solitairs and love square cuts. Congratulations to her.

  • How exciting! I think he did a wonderful job picking out the ring. It’s beautiful.

  • A good looking ring! Many congrats to your sister.

  • Congrats to your sister!! beautiful ring!

  • AM

Thank you for all of the well wishes. We are both so happy and excited about getting married. Thanks for the post sis!

  • I was proposed to on the 1 year anniversary of our first date. I do still love my ring because I know how much trouble he went through to get it for me.

  • Great nails, ROCKIN’ Ring!! Congrats to your sis!!!!
My husband proposed to me over the phone LOL He was in Kentucky working, and I was pregnant with his twins and living in Georgia with my grandparents. He called me one day to ask how my doctors appointment went, and the next thing I knew he was saying “…and so I guess I’m going to ask you to marry me…” and I said “…okay, I guess I’ll say YES!” LOL!!

As far as rings go, we went to a pawn shop the day before our wedding and bought our bands AND my engagement ring hehehe! I loved my engagement ring, although the diamond was itsy bitsy…

So, for Christmas 2 years ago, he surprised me with a new engagement ring It’s got a wide band (which I LOVE) and a cluster of tiny diamonds. To me, it’s beautiful, but I’ll always love my first one, which has a special spot in my jewelry box, to be passed down some day, I suppose!

I would like to wish your sister the very best!

  • Finally!!! YEAH!!!

I was proposed to on Christmas Day. The ring was in the toe of my stocking. It was sweet and romantic and I said, “YES!”

  • Chrissy

Congratulations to AM!!! Yeah! What a beautiful ring! So happy for her.
I was proposed to on the beach in North Carolina. Still love my ring to this day but I rarely wear it because it is a marquis setting and it doesn’t do well around kids (sharp edges).
    So happy for AM!

  • YEY!!!! :yahoo: Congrats to your sis! Prince Charming proposed to me while we were laying on the hood of our car watching the leonid meteor shower on Nov. 18th, 2001 in the country. It was incredibly sweet and I cried and was all happy.

  • I also want to say….(and mostly because of the post after this where you lament about keeping stuff back for fear of being judged..and I deleted this from first comment…but now I’m back because I do not feel I should be ashamed or hide it))….that we had been ‘living in sin’ since 1996. I had already had Alex and was about 8 months pregnant with Liberty. Our 4 year anniversary is this October, but as of May 1st we’ll have been together for 11 years! :winking:

  • my now husband proposed on xmas eve.. in front of his whole family. He stood in front of them and read some really terrible poetry that he had written and then gave me a beautiful princess cut diamond. (Certified conflict free YAY!)

Unfortunatly since his family is just like that.. his brother couldnt be one-upped and stole the show by proposing to the mother of his two children.. something thier mother had been waiting and praying for for 6 years.. so we upstaged BIG time.

  • Speak Up. You Know You Wanna.
