Thirteen Things swirling around in MommaK’s head today…

1. Why do we fool ourselves into thinking we’ll be relaxed and have more time during the summer? Is it one of those things like having a baby where you forget how much it hurts? (I’m not comparing my children being home to labor pains but you get the basic idea.)

2. Today is a huge day in Petroville. Both girly-girls are getting their ears pierced and my youngest has her first horseback riding lesson.

3. After getting the first round of rabies shots (5 shots), my older daughter said, “I’m not scared to get my ears pierced anymore!” …and so she is. And of course the little one has to keep up.

4. Speaking of the little one, my 7 year old has been begging for riding lessons for months now. It went from a firm NO to I doubt it to We’ll see to I’ll call and find out to Your lesson is tomorrow. I guess we know who won that battle.

5. I’m thinking about taking riding lessons too. We’ll see how much I sneeze at the farm tomorrow. Last time I checked I was allergic to horses.

6. School starts on the 28th for us. That makes me happy and sad. I’m fooled into believing (by myself) that I’ll get my act together then - workout more, eat better, get organized..who am I kidding? Hell, I’d rather them stay home and drive me crazy. That means no homework, sleeping late and an excuse to be lazy : It’s summer!

7. My oldest gal starts middle school this year so Monday we went to the school to pay her fees and pick up her class schedule & paperwork. She was able to practice opening her locker while we were there. She got the hang of it pretty quickly and feels much less stressed about her first day now. Whew!

8. I received her test scores from last years SOL’s (state standardized tests) and do you know that my girl aced 2 of them?? Not kidding. 100% correct on reading & writing. I was floored. (And no, I am not bragging. I am filling up my 13.)

9. Do you watch Big Brother? If so, we need to talk. I am so hooked on this year’s All Star Show, it’s not funny. It is the only show I watch and I miss it every day it’s not on. How sick is that? If you do watch, who do you want to win?

10. I’ve been reading a bit this summer. Random books that I had lying around or that I picked up on a whim. This month I’ve read The Amateur Marriage, Kissed Twice and just started Remeber When. Have you read these? What are you reading this summer?

11. I took my car in for an oil change at Jiffy Lube yesterday and it took over a freaking hour due to the idiot that thought he knew what he was doing. I get a little alarmed when most of the workers in the garage end up under the hood of my car. It seems to always happens to me. Like I wear a badge that reads “Please give me your worker-in-training today. Don’t worry. I’m not in any hurry.

12. My pool is at a teasingly beautiful standstill and my yard is torn to shreds. I’ll post pictures soon so you can properly enjoy my misery.

13. Lucinda and I are gearing up for The Perfect Post Awards on September 1st. Haven’t heard of The Perfect Post Awards? Check it out.

If you really love me, feed me in your reader!

You love me. You really love me. Dontchya?

  • We’ve had 6 full days of middle school, and so far Zed LOVES it. His opinion hasn’t changed since the first day, and today he re-iterated that he like changing classes. What fees did you have to pay though?

  • When I heard about the horseback riding lessons I thought about how you will deal with the allergies. It would be nice to think you outgrew them. Your sister receive a bad reaction at an OUTDOOR rodeo. So being outside can still trigger a reaction. Good luck on your adventures today. I do hope the ear piercing goes quickly and bravely!!

  • Oh My Word! I’ve been perusing my blogroll looking for somebody, anybody who watches Big Brother. Tah-Dah!! I’m completely addicted. I DVR every episode and LOVE LOVE LOVE my alone time with BB. (actually, it’s not really “alone time” … I think I got my husband hooked, too)

I soo need to laugh with someone about Janelle’s decision-making. I swear Big Brother must go through a lot of work to cover up the puppet strings that are attached to her arms and feet by the Dr.
Howie cracks me up - he does everything Janey wants him to and I was ROTFL when he told people his official guess for the “special power.”
Oh my word - I’m rooting for James but I don’t know if he can pull it off.
Who is your favorite? :yahoo:

  • You know, I thought I would so be into Big Brother this time around, but I am not. Probably because there is nobody “new” to interest me. But I have watched every one of them up until this season. So go fig….

    Happy TT!!!

  • Hiya MommaK! Good luck with the ear piercings and riding lessons! And may you hear no whining about how this hurts and that hurts from anyone!!

  • congrats on the girls getting their ears peirced. this is a big day!

I LOVE this years Big Brother! I am completely addicted!

  • I don’t usually watch big brother religiously, but I am HOOKED this year, too. I despise janelle. And I think I’m in love with WILL and Boogie, even though they’re schemers. I love it when they do that thing when they’re on their hand “phones” in confessional room.

  • I haven’t been watching BB because I only get like 2 channels on my TV lol (no cable) But I do have Fox and loved the finale of “So You Think You Can Dance”. That boy totally deserved that win!

I was a huge fan also of Hell’s Kitchen… am I the only person that watches these shows?

Big day for the girls! I used to do the piercings. Please make sure they consult you on the placment of the earings. I would let the older one go first… if she is brave then the younger one will be.

  • summer has a really bad way of misleading us- it’s always too short and too hot, we never get everything done. have fun with the horses & ears today! I’m going to have to read more to find out about the rabies…

  • You’re allowed to brag a little bit - your oldest is a smart, brave little red-head and of course you are proud of her. Who wouldn’t be? Will we see pictures of the new earrings? My youngest got hers pierced at age 8, and my oldest didn’t get hers done until 2 days before her 20th birthday!

My personal theory on the Jiffy Lube situation? The guys just want to get a really good look at your gorgeous blonde hair and your hot flip-flops. :winking:

  • Hi MommaK! I’ve been saying all my adult life (especially since I moved to the quiet country) “when things slow down…” like they ever will. In the summer, I think fall will be slower, in the fall the winter etc.

I love how you filled up #8

    Mine are posted!

  • AM

I fully understand the feeling of how quickly the summer went. I actually had to start going back to school yesterday just to begin the torture of moving classrooms. I don’t know what happened. I had such grand plans for decorating and learning how to cook this summer. Maybe next summer.

That is so cool about the girls getting their ears pierced. They are very brave. And you on a horse!?! Amazing. Good luck.

  • I could NOT believe Chickenman got back on. Is he still there? He’s a big doofus. I only watched that first one, though.

Horseback riding is SO wonderful. I would love to go for lessons, too! My back would hate me for that. I hope you’re not allergic!

Yes, yes, I’m in. Come. See.

  • Hey! Congrats on the SOL results! I forgot to go to the office and get ours… I was only there volunteering for 3 or 4 hours!! DUH!!

Congrats on the earrings! I’ve got to call that guy and talk to him… I forgot to do that, too!

    Have a good week!

  • :yahoo:School starts here the 28th too, and I agree with what you said, but hey we can give it a good try….right?

BB7 All Stars Rocks! I am not really sure who I want to win, it would be nice if Danielle or George wins, only because of their families. I am not really into the way Janelle is playing her game, chilltown is awesome. I want Howie to play better, not so sure whats up with him.

Anyway after my rambling, I shall say great list and Happy TT! I have bookmarked your blog, I love it!

  • Ooo, pierced ears! That’s always exciting. Of course, I was 25 years old before I was brave enough to do it.

    My TT is up, too!

  • Loved your list. So sorry about jiffy lube and I’m off to check out #13

  • My girls go into 6th grade this year. I’m in a panic, them not so much. I know what the homework load will be. My oldest is going into EIGHTH grade. Crap! How did he get so big. Things never slow down around here. It is just an illusion.

Hope you can ride the horses.

  • I daughter has forever been wanting to ride horses again ever since we went once with Girl Scouts. I’m still on “I doubt it”

I have watched BB religiously since season 3. I have a love/hate (mostly hate I think) relationship with Will. I am a big Janelle fan and I really don’t know who I want to win, but it’s not Will or Boogie. Did you know that Erica and Boogie have been dating since before the show started??? I found that out yesterday from the live feeds. You love BB too…we need to chat girl!

  • *MY* daughter not “I” daughter…DUH! :duh:

  • I couldn’t go now to get my ears pierced, I am so afraid of physical pain! Hope everything goes well with the girls!!! my son starts college on the 28th, it makes me feel soooo old :zombie: but I will be forever young at heart
    Happy TT!!!!

  • Have a wonderful day!
    *^_^
    (=’:'=) hugs

  • 9. Yup. Hooked, just like you. Honestly? I think ChillTown is playing the best game (as dishonourable as they are) and I think either of them deserve to win (even though Will has already won). What do you think?

  • Oh yes I watch BB!! I’m wanting Danielle to win this season. I never liked her before, but this season..I dont know!! I am so happy she won POV!! And James playing both sides, priceless!! LEGION OF DOOM!!! mwaa haa haa!! LOL!!

Also, I’ve read a ton this summer, I’m a library junkie…about four books every two weeks. (I spend a lot of time outside with Hayden and need something to keep me occupied while he’s doing his thing). Right now I’m reading True Believer by Nicholas Sparks. I tend to always be disappointed in most of Nicholas Sparks’ books, but this one is pretty good…so far.

  • I forgot to say…good luck to your girls getting their ears pierced!! How fun!! :yahoo:

  • [...] So what are you waiting for?? I’m playing. Leanne’s playing. It’s THURSDAY - let’s go! Check It Out!, MeMe’s 4 YouYou • Trackback [...]

  • You’re a Big Brother fan? Why did we not talk about this on the phone?! I LOVE it! And I am so glad I hung in there this season, because now it’s really starting to get good.

    GO WILL!!!

  • Great list! You’re right about Summer…it’s frustrating sometimes, isn’t it? It’s over for us and we are back in school already.

    My TT is up.

  • How exciting for your girls!!

Janelle needs to win Big Brother! I am just praying that she doesn’t let Will get under her skin any more than he already has! :lovestruck:

  • Oh my! I have to decide on who on the perfect post. Goodness!

  • I’m with you all the way on #1 and #6. I am NOT looking forward to the homework wars at all. But I have three weeks though before school starts. We go on vacation the week before and get home just in time to sent the kids on their way!

  • Take the horseback riding lessons with her…you’ll love it (eventually)!!

And I watch Big Brother…you know my addiction to reality TV. If there was a TV station with a live feed like they have online…I would have one of my TVs tuned in to that station TWENTY FOUR HOURS A DAY.
I wish it was on more often than just during the summer. *sigh*

  • My son goes to year-round school so we’re halfway through the first quarter. He got his midterm report this week. Congratulations to your smart girl on her awesome scores.

Re #10, if you read my TT, you’ll see what I’ve been reading. All mysteries/crime all the time, except right now I’m also reading “The Night Visitor” and “Between Georgia.” I usually keep at least two books going all the time, sometimes three.

  • The summer went by WAY too fast!

It is a big day, ears pierced! WOW!

    Happy TT!
