Today I woke up early to receive the electricians. No, I wasn’t going to have them in for tea. They were scheduled to work on the hook up for the pool.
So they came and we discussed where everything was and where it all should be. And a problem surfaced. A very big problem.
“You know, we gonna hafta dig through here”, he said as he motioned to my newly landscaped front garden and stone walkway.
“What???????!!! Uh-uh. No way.”
“There is no other way, Miss.”
“No way. To hell with that. You need to go the other way. Go around the house. Take it up the roof – I don’t care.”
“Well, we could take it under your driveway.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah, you jus need to call someone to dig up the asphalt and we put it in for you another day.”
“Ohhhh noooo. You’re crazy, man. There has got to be a way around this.”
“Sorry, Miss, but we gonna have to dig through your landscapin.”
It was then that I felt the stinging in my eyes and the back of my throat close up.
Hold on a freaking minute. I cannot burst into tears here. Whatever they screw up can be fixed. Think of the bigger picture. Bigger picture. Homeless people. Starving children. Pollution. This is just dirt. It can be put back.
So they dug.
This is how it looked this morning before they raped the land with their shovels.

If you look very closely, you’ll see a small wet puddle of my shallow tears.

Diggin Damn Dastards…

ugggh, that’s terrible to look at, but soon enough it will all be a memory, unlike all that other stuff. and we’re all entitled to our private grief over little things, I think.
Oh, no!!!!
Breathe…it WILL be okay. At least it’s at the edge of the walkway so maybe it won’t be so noticeable when you put everything back.
Well, it is only on the edge…..so it will be easy to fix. It’ll be ok. I have faith in your ability to make it look beautiful again!!
Ooooh! Yes, they trench for electrical…. The walkway and plants look beautiful! You’re a busy lady coordinating all this!
Did you ask him in a very brave voice, “How DO people like you sleep at night after ‘raping the land’?”
Well.
YOu have no idea how badly I would like people to come up to me and tell me they have to dig up my embarassament of a backyard, so would have to start over,
SAYING THAT, the pool is worth it, right?
I feel your pain. When we did our pool they ripped out our entire front yard. It’ll all be worth it.
Your house is beautiful, by the way!
while it is true that everything they tore up can be redone, i can totally sympathize with you. i would be totally upset if i were in your shoes. i mean, it all looked so pretty! not to mention all the time i’m sure it took. are the walkway stones salvageable, at least, so you don’t have to buy new ones?
Yes, the stones can be put back in. The worst part of it is the fact that the landscaping was only done 2 weeks ago and isn’t even paid for yet!
Not to turn the faucet back on here, but that looks incredibly sad.
Love, a fellow gardener….Karen
BIG HUGS BABE!
Awww! At least they only had to take out a few bricks, and the dug right next to the driveway. Deep breath in, deep breath out. It will be alright. Have a martini.
The stones go back don’t they? It’s beautiful-what a change. It will look beautiful again once they are done and the stones are back in place and the red drit is cleared and your planter is full of fresh gorilla hair again- but shit! this sucked! Hey but a good thing- pools done!
Oh, no. Well, the pool will be so worth it. And I can say that for a fact since I have seen the Beauty.
and then you say “I will be over to your house tomorrow to do the same thing to it. It is the only way.”
In two weeks, it will all be better.
The landscaping has some California flavor to it. Cool!
It’s hard to get landscapers here in the middle of the summer. I’ll get things moving in September.
OMG! you poor thing! That is just awful! A new cable company came through and they had this machine that fed the line under the driveways, they only had to dig a hole about every 3 houses. Don’t see why you couldn’t do that with an electrical line.
Oh the landscaping was beautiful.
Oh no!!
You did a good thing, Momma K. It is not easy to keep one’s cool on a hot summer day, when your latest creation is going to be upturned.
By the way, your house is very pretty! I love the stone work on the side.
Um, well, I’ve nothing new to add
so I’ll just say that soon you’ll be laughing about it while you swim and splash in your new pool.
and it looks like the driveway was freshly asphalted so I think the landscape ripup was the right choice.
P.S. LOVE your new place!
Bright side: they didn’t say “ma’am, we’re gonna have to give you that big old overgrown nasty bush back.”
phew.
Ohhh, the HORROR!!! I feel for ya, MommaK!
It’s not as bad as I thought it would be! I pictured them tearing up at least 4 feet in width and they kept it down to a minimum. It will heal soon…….. :lovestruck:
OMG!! You’ve got to be kidding!
They didn’t really do that did they?
Oh, Momma K… I’m so sorry! They’ll fix it. (I hope!!)
xo

It’s only dirt. It’s only dirt..
You are right..it can all be fixed…

Oh No! I’ll come kick ‘em in the shin for ya, k? I’m sorry they did that to your beautiful yard…but along with everyone else, I think you’ll do a bang-up job making it beautiful AGAIN :winking: Just throw a rock at ‘em next time you see them! LOL
