Last week I joked about this house being haunted. I’m no longer laughing…
I was sitting in the kitchen of many windows working on my laptop when I heard a knock on the glass. I turned around and saw what I thought was my husband motioning for me to come to the bedroom. I was looking through 2 glass doors at him so all I saw was his silhouette. I put my finger up and said I’d be there in a minute. When I turned back to my computer, he knocked again and made the same “come here” gesture.
I got up and walked into the bedroom to find that my husband was not there. He was in the next room working on his computer.
“Yeah?”
“What?”
“What did you need? You called me.”
“What are you talking about? I didn’t call you.”
*pause*
“You were just knocking on the glass door in the hallway. You motioned for me to come in here. I saw you.”
“Look…I don’t know what your talking about, honey. I have been sitting right here for the last 20 minutes.”
I told him what I saw and he did not believe me – or more likely did not want to. I made him swear to the point of anger that he was not screwing with me.
Okay. Maybe I was seeing things. I did a self-assessment. No wine. Fully awake. No scary movies.
Check, check, check.
CRAP!
Fast forward through the various creepy noises that have no explanation but have been mentally written off as new noises in a new house.
Today around noon as I was emptying the dishwasher, I heard a banging upstairs that had me convinced I was not in the house alone. It freaked me out so much that I actually walked outside and just stood there.
Crap. Now what?
Luckily the ADT guy was just pulling in.
Sweet Baby Jesus! I’m sure I was just hearing things and I’ll feel better now that I’m not in the house alone.
The ADT tech was here to install a few things he did not get a chance to finish when he wired the house back in April. I let him in and we made small talk for a minute.
“Well, I’ll let you get to it. I’m sure you remember where everthing is.”
“Oh, I remember this house. I almost didn’t finish this job.”
“What? Why?”
(I had to leave him here alone to do the install because it ran very late and I needed to get the kids to bed. At this time we were still living in the old house.)
“I’ve never been more scared in my life.”
“WHAT?”
“Yeah…I kept hearing noises. At one point, I was so freaked out that I called my boss and told him I didn’t know if I could stay.”
“What kind of noises?”
“Footsteps…”
“Oh, well …it’s a new roof and it makes a lot of noise when the temperature changes.”
“And…
…I kept hearing children laughing.”
Oh, just kill me now.
There was no furniture, TVs or anything else in the house then that would make any such sound. We were not at all moved in yet. We are on 10 acres here so children outside playing basketball is not going to fit the bill.
And then he said,
“It was fine until the sun went down and I was here all alone.”
Am I on candid camera? Are you f*cking kidding me?
Did I mention that this is my first night alone in this house? Perfect timing.
Have you ever seen a ghost? Do believe in them?
Do you have any Holy Water I could borrow?

Um…is it too late to move out? :scare:
Seriously….I SWEAR that I’m being watching or I get that creepy cold feeling at times. It’s only happened in this house and an apartment I lived in when I was in my early 20’s. I just kinda blow it off…or sometimes if the feeling is REALLY strong, I’ll just say “Hey…ya want some coffee?”
And really…if any of you are laughing at me…I’ll know it! OK…maybe not, but don’t laugh.
holy…crap.
just reading that made the hair on my neck go up. i think i’d flip out a bit. but i guess they say confront things like that directly, but omg HOW?
please don’t tell me there’s a little boy in your house howling red rum. that’s not even funny. i take that back.
…are you a praying woman, dear?
Oh my goodness, you scare me, but yes I do know of a house that was haunted.
You need to find someone to do some kind of ceremony in your house. The house I”m thinking of had a visit from a local Native American chief. I think that helped things.
Btw. that was not nice of the tech to scare you like that. Not nice at all.
Don’t worry. We’ll find a way to say good-bye to Mr. Walter for you. He just needs closure. We need to do it soon, though.
I knew that house was to good to be true!
I’m just teasing, I’m sure it’s just an old house creaking and moaning.
Okay, I’m back. I think they did something similar to the sage ceremony described here.
http://www.angelsghosts.com/how_to_get_rid_of_ghosts.html
Now this is what I suggest that you do (and I’m not kidding here). Get Angie to come if she can. Have her walk through the house with you and talk to the ghost like they suggest you do. Angie will back you up.
Maybe I can send you some sage…….
That’s creepy. I don’t believe in ghosts and hauntings and that kind of stuff, but…that’s creepy.
My oh my. Perhaps I’d be checking into Motel 6 for the evening. Of you do have ghosts , consider the possibility that they are lovely. friendly souls.
I think I’d talk to the ghosty and make nice. Actually, I’d consider him an angel. (If it is the guy who built the house, that could be good. You could ask him all the questions you wanted to ask when you first purchased the house.) He knows you are taking good care of the house. I’m sure he wants you to know that he’s just watching out for you and that he’s happy there is such a nice family living in his house.

PS – If you get nervous, give me a call and I’ll come right over – with my baseball bat.
Oh wow. What’s the history on the place? Did someone die there? or can you talk to the previous owner? I agree with Raehan — invite the Chief over!
I’m with Rae.
You need to make friends with your old ghosts, and tell them how much you love the home and how well you’ll care for it. You need to have someone over to pray with and for the dearly departed who can’t find their way.
It doesn’t sound like they mean you any harm, but if it’s as real as you’re saying I’d be taking some real (and probably strange) steps to help these folks to know you’re okay and respect their space and help them find their way out now that you’re there.
Talk about heebie-jeebies!
yup, i believe in ghosts… my apartment had one… i don’t know where she is, might be she was just passing through.
in the philippines, we usually have our houses blessed by a priest… one surefire way of driving the bad spirits out.
for now, underneath the blankets sounds to be a great place to be in! :giggle:
Yes, I believe they exist. Yes, I have seen one. We could research your house and the people who lived there and on the land.
Hahahaha I see Raehan has already volunteered me to help you too! :-)
You’re creeping me out. When Joey and I moved in (just recently), I said I thought somebody had died there. I don’t know why, but I just have a feeling of it. Whenever we are in bed I hear noises downstairs and we are the only ones living there, and like you, we aren’t completely moved in. I definitely think haunting is possible, and that’s just not like me to believe in supernatural things.
it’s unanimous. I am a Christian, but I do definitely believe in ghosts and hauntings… a “blessing” sounds like a good plan as well as making nice with your ghosties… seriously girl. You just freaked me out…do your dogs react at all??
Uh, yeah. I’m not sure that I *ever* want to come to your house for a slumber party. Don’t take it personally, I’ve seen one too many scary movies.
Do *you* think the house is haunted? Have you googled your house yet?
My first husband messes with my brain every once in a grea while. I still live in the house that he and I lived in (with new hubby). He will do things like unlock one of the two locks on the back door within minutes of me locking it, turn up the light in the kitchen when I’m in there and before we carpeted the hall his footsteps were heard.
I’ have considered having this house blessed here recently but I just don’t know.
Every once in a while I get that prickly feel on the back of my neck and I will say “just don’t scare me” and the feeling will go away fairly soon afterwards.
Um. SCARY! I would totally psych myself out if it were me and be running through the hills! I believe in ghosts, though I’m not sure if I’ve seen one or not. At least you have Lillian there to protect you, right?
Yes, MommaK, get the house blessed. I am also a christian woman. I believe and have witnessed some supernatural phenomena. But it doesn’t sound as if they were menacing in anyway, just wanting information(the beckoning motion you saw). So, have the house blessed, and pray to understand the meaning. It’ll be ok.
Promise.
Wow. That is weird. So weird that even the ADT guy heard it to. Has your husband noticed anything? I guess your new name could be CreepyK.
man, that would freak me the hell out. i wouldn’t be able to sleep. i have a wild imagination anyway, so if it were me, my boyfriend would just be telling me i was making it up. but with multiple people experiencing the same things…. that’s just creepy! but, it doesn’t sound like these figures are threatening at all, so i guess that’s good.
My grandmother’s ghost used to visit us when the boys were little. We all saw her. In the evening she would go between their room checking on them. Recently I asked them if they ever saw her. My youngest said that he did once or twice.
You could ask a preacher to come bless your house. Tell them that they need to move on to the light. Good luck and keep us posted!!
I have moved my blog from the Linen Rose – come by and visit my new home!
Vicki :-)
Lived with a ghost as a kid, sometimes it was scary others it was just ok. Don’t want to live with another one. I hope it works out.
This is sooooooooo scary!!!
I hope the house isn’t haunted. I would find out the history and such…..Didn’t you say in one of your posts that someone died in the house? I DO believe in ghosts and the supernatural. I won’t write what has happened to me, because it is too long. But maybe I will write to you personally off the blog, but maybe I won’t. Because I don’t want you to be scared.
Light a WHITE candle and surround yourself with good energy, until you get to the bottom of what the noise is. xo
Yikes! I could barely sleep in a house that had a Furby let alone creepy ghosts. I guess I will postpone my first sleepover for a bit longer. What did my brother-in-law think after you told him about the ADT guy?
I suggest you lay in a big supply of garlic. Oh…and check to make sure that your house isn’t built on a “relocated” cemetery. You only need to see “Poltergeist” once, ya know!
I think I believe it, too. But he sounds friendly. (You’re sure your husband isn’t messing with you?!)
Look at it this way — now you have someone to talk to when your husband’s out of town.
Believe it or not, I believe in ghost too. I am really worried for you. Also watch out for the ADT guy. I never trust those people.
Are you freakin serious?!?!? I would have been outta there two days ago. I hope your night goes well and if not then get the hell outta dodge!
Yup, I believe in “ghosts” (but I call them spirits) because I’m one of those “sensitive” types.
There was only one time that there was a ‘presence’ that I didn’t recognize and it scared the crap out of me.
I try not to freak out because I do not believe in evil in the spirit world. But this one freaked me out. I won’t write about it in my blog, but I think I figured out, eventually, who it was.
You got my e-mail from this afternoon, right? Tell me if you didn’t, because I want to make sure you got a proper thank you. :lovestruck:
I guess I believe because if I were you I’d be crawling out of my skin. If I didn’t believe I suppose I’d roll with it. But there have got to be nice ghosts. Whatever are you going to do?
I definately believe in ghosts…but not in a Sylvia Brown kind of way…that lady creeps me out.
The sage ceremony sounds like a great idea…and if you’re not too superstitious or squeamish you can buy a sage smudge stick at any local hippie store or occult store…and perform the ceremony yourself. Just say nice cleansing words!
I’ve seen 2 ghosts at my grandmother’s farmhouse…and here’s a short ghost story for you:
The morning after my grandfather had died we all woke up mid-morning. When living my grandfather was an early riser, waking before dawn. He would put fire on the stove and brew a pot of coffee for the rest of the house. The morning after his death wood had been put on the fire and coffee had been made…but none of us in the house had done either! We know it was my grandfather doing one last sweet gesture for us all.
Good luck!
I think ghosts are pretty cool as long as they don’t try to hurt anyone or break stuff. Maybe it’s the rare fixer-upper kind of ghost and he was tapping on the glass to see what you had next on your handyman list. THIS COULD BE FANTASTIC FOR YOU!
WOW! This is kinda creepy. I believe in ghosts. I see in the comments that sage was suggested. I did that in my office bldg. where I had my practice. After the sage we took salt and left it in all the rooms overnight and then threw it away. We also put salt around the perimeter of the bldg.
sounds like you have lots of help, but send me an email if you want more suggestions.
HUGS!
My house is haunted too…built in 1918. That’s why I sleep with a box fan blowing, so I can’t hear the crap!!
Wow, MommaK. That is deliciously scary! My husband and I stayed alone in a historic home that was supposedly verrrry haunted. Each of the rooms had a journal for guests and everyone had written about the ghosts they had seen while visiting. We laughed it off and had fun turning off all the lights and walking through each room, calling for ghosts to show themselves. We sat on the bed of the home’s owner, who’d died there, and were silent for a full five minutes. Nothing. We giggled and went to bed.
As soon as we were in bed, the noises started. Footsteps running up and down the stairs outside our room, tapping, knocking, creaking. ALL. NIGHT. LONG. We kept waking up and whispering, “Did you hear that?” “Yes!”
Let me add that the owner of the place was an old woman who’d given us our key when we drove up to her house five minutes away, and that we were in a historic village that was totally uninhabited in the off season except for us. CREEPY.
That said, look into what you can do to get rid of them. I’d start looking up info on the Internet, and maybe contact a few local churches. Many churches have protocol for handling something like that. Seriously.
I have heard of people having ghosts and I still don’t know what to believe. When I was in college I had a discussion with one of my instructors and she believes that ghosts are likely benevolent as opposed to malevolent like we see in the movies.
O H…M Y…G O S H !
My tummy just did a flip while reading this post!
I’ve never seen anything like that before…but my husband swears that an old chair his parents had when he was growing up was haunted. It was passed down from his great grandparents. He says the chair would always “look” at him. He would turn the chair to face the corner (it was a swivel/rocker)..and then the next thing he knew…it would be “looking” at him again! It really freaked him out! One time he had a girlfriend over (age 15) and he and the girl sat in the chair together and kissed. He said the chair lurched forward and threw them on the floor! YIKES!!!!!!!
Good luck sleeping there by yourself…I don’t think I could do it!
WHOA!!!!! I’d be outta there so fast…the Ghost and Mrs. Muir was fine for TV watching, but I don’t want to live it. I’m just too chicken. Keep us posted and keep the sage, garlic and holy water close at hand.
:scare: ok you creeped me out and so did Lucinda’s story… You posted this Monday and its now Thursday…. :indifferent: Did everything not go ok your first night??
Soooo glad your son is ok…..that was a close call!!! :scare:
And I believe in ghosts…
My TT is up….come visit.
How is your son doing? Hope everything is fine. I scare myself without having to deal with departed spirits.I suggest you call Jenifer Love Hewitt, she deals with stuff like that all the time.
Yep
I lived in a haunted house.
I was 12 or so.
There was one room I would never ever go in. It scared the heck out of me for some reason.
The attic was creepy.
The lights would come on by themselves.
Noises.
Cold spots.
Yeah.
Thankfully the house I live in now has only had two owners before us and they are all still alive and never had one second of creepiness!
Good luck.
Hope your baby is okay!

How scary!
Ooooh I’d love to do a read.
You know where I am!
We live in a neighborhood that was built on an old burial ground. In our old house we heard noises and radios and t.v.s would turn on in empty rooms. It was freaky but, “they” never really bothered us.
I’m a firm believer in ghosts. How else will I get revenge on all my crappy ex-boyfriends.
Congrats on the PP!
I lived in a haunted house when I was a teenager. I’ve got some spooky stories.
This may sound weird, but try telling the ghosts they need to leave. Be very, very, firm (maybe even yelling at them). My sister did this, without knowing that this can be a method for getting rid of unwanted spirits, and I think it worked. No more bumps in the night after that episode. Of course, my sister could scare Godzilla out of the city, but that’s another story.
