I am a very thankful girl these days – exhausted but thankful. It has been almost 2 weeks since we moved our family from the Ding Dang Woods to this phat ass home on the hill and “thrilled” just doesn’t cut it. We are currently unpacking boxes and rearranging furniture but this place took no time at all to feel like Home to me.
I thought I’d be a little freaked out being that this is such a big house built in a maze-like fashion by an eccentric old man who may have died here- but I’m not. I do occasionally get flashes of the movie “Amityville Horror” when I’m home alone and the roof creaks, but only the scene in the beginning where they love the house and agree to buy it. I’ve already decided that if I see Mr. Walter’s ghost here roaming about, I will thank him profusely and then sit him down for tea because I have a million questions about this place – answers to which he took to his grave.
One of the most striking features about this home are the number of windows. Most are centered around a stunning view of rolling green pasture and Virginia mountains majesty, but every room has them. The kitchen has the highest number of windows with 24. It is really all windows and sliding glass doors. The master bedroom comes in at second place with 10 windows. This home situated on enough land that privacy isn’t an issue – unless the someone is in your yard or in your house. Yes, folks, if you strolled down to the kitchen for a midnight snack you could look right into my bedroom and possibly catch enough action to blind you for life. So, of course, we worry about the kids.
The house came with no window treatments. Mr. Walter lived alone and apparently wasn’t concerned if the deer spotted him in the raw. As you can imagine, having that many windows dressed properly could cost a fortune but for the sake of our children’s eyes, we decided to order them for the master bedroom. This was one of the many tasks I accomplished before we moved in. I met with someone from a window treatment shop, we went through catalogs, took measurements and I placed an order. Done. Well, almost done. Because each treatment is custom made, they take 4 – 6 weeks to get here. Luckily, the window treatment company offers you temporary blinds while you are waiting. The rep. told me that my temporary blinds should arrive by UPS in a week. Phew.
A week went by and no mini blinds. This was not a good week. There is no way on God’s green earth to get your groove on with that many freaking windows in your bedroom – not with kids in the house anyway, and we have those, you know. Things were becoming extremely tense as an all time No Action record was set in our bedroom. We were tired anyway – but still.
Friday they finally arrived.

Was it a good weekend?
You bet your mini blinds it was.

Um… I hope you stocked up on Windex too
and coffee filters! Clean those windows with old newspapers or coffee filters instead of paper towels. Paper towels leave paper fibers and the newspaper and coffee filters do not.
BTW turn the lights off! LOL
How MommaK got her groove on.
Yeah for blinds is right!!
WOW!! That sure is a lot of windows….I am glad you are all moved in and happy.
Invest in a squeegee. Much easier to clean windows with. I’m sooo excited for you! It must be just fantastic to be in your dream home. Congrats!
Do you have any odd too-little-for-anyone-to-fit-in rooms under the stairs?
Are you serious? I would have pegged you for a total exhibitionist. I am totally shocked at this news, you know, that you’re not a “public groove’n” kind-a-gal.
I bet if Mr. Walter is hanging around, you’re makin’ him blush behind those mini blinds.
:giggle:
Yippee! Your new place sounds wonderful!!! Congrats on finding your dream home…
Pray tell, will you be sharing pictures of your new house? The curiosity is killing me here.
Bwahahaha! Congrats on the mini blinds and the action packed weekend!
Hi M’Kay–glad you’re settled in and you’ve christened the master bedroom, in a manner of speaking. And yes, I’d love to see a couple of pics. How ’bout it?
do you have a garage, cuz you could have used your car parked in the garage!
We also have a zillion non-standard windows, though not as many as yours. I took a while to get em covered.
I love homeade architecture houses. No wonder yours is special. I’ll drink to Mr. Walter and wish you many more angelic music mini-blind weekends.
oh, i canNOT live in a house without blinds. i hate feeling like people can look in, especially at night. when we first moved into our house i felt so…NAKED without them.
So glad you’re back to share your details again! And henceforth I will refer to being naked as being “in the raw”. You funny.
Love the description of all the windows! I would love it.
I would hate, however, the risks involved with the child-factor.
Thank GOD for blinds!
Of course, had you considered doctoring their bedtime drinks with a lil…Benedryl??? Heh. Just a thought for future reference.
Thank goodness for blinds! Too funny. Enjoy your new home. It sounds wonderful!
Congrats on the new house! Especially now that the blinds have arrived.
Yeah for the mini blinds!! congrats, your new home sounds wonderful.Haven’t moved in almost 13 years and I have full closets and crowded shelves to prove it. I want a neat home! *sigh*
I’m glad you got to work it out!
WOO HOO! Go you guys!!! Now cut it out – we miss our Momma K!
first of all, i am GREEN with envy… your house sounds huge!!! living in HK apartments for 3 years is enough to make someone claustrophobic.
but, hey, i’m glad that you guys some action… without it, all that space would be a waste, yes?
I am so excited for you and your new big house. It all sounds beautiful! Congrats!
Woo, I’m so excited you got mini blinds.
Now I’ll NEVER get the good pictures to post on the internet.
24 WINDOWS IN THE KITCHEN!!!! (Yes, 4 exclamation points were necessary.) Wow. Sounds like my dream kitchen.
