Creating a blogroll seems to be very personal endeavor. Many online journalists tend to keep their link lists short to ensure that they are able to read each blog daily while some bloggers link anyone and everyone they chat with. Others like Angie have a mental checklist in play and then there are those like my cousin who strive to keep a trusted list of good writing displayed on their sidebar.
My blogroll reads like an address book full of good friends and family. Of course, I cannot possibly read all of the blogs listed there every day. Some of them I’ve known since I started this blog and some are fairly new to me. I do have quite a few listed that I rarely chat with anymore but we pop in from time to time to say hello – just like old friends do.
Last night I was surfing around when I should have been sleeping and I came across a post by a wonderful writer known as Risible Girl. In it she writes about blogging cliques and families. She asked her readers this question:
So, give me your favorite blog that’s not already on my list and tell me why you like that blog. Even better, would be if that blogger is my ‘type’. I like blogs that just put their daily life out there, no matter the topic. I like to feel like I’m sitting and having a cup of coffee with them (which is usually what I’m doing when I’m reading blogs.)So, who’s your favorite blogger that’s not already on my list of favorites, and why?
Are you a reciprolinker, a linky snob or somewhere in between? Do tell.
If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!

I’m a reciprolinker. I find all the cool blogs through you…so I’m sure you’ve already got all the good ones on there!
I used to be a reciprolinker, but I’ve found that sometimes people just want the link, and nothing more …. and that’s too fake for me.
I have a blogroll, but I use it as way for others to easily see who some of my favorite blogs are.
I specifically use Bloglines for my daily visits. Occassionally, like I did this weekend, I’ll go to Blogroll and do a search for all that have linked to me, and then I’ll read each and every one of those blogs, and leave a comment.

A good blog to visit is K Jones at Wilkeworld, http://wilkeworld.blogspot.com …. he’s hilarious!
That’s a good question… If you want to check out anyone on my blogroll go ahead, I’m sure there are some there that aren’t on yours. Here’s one that I enjoy, she’s funny, witty and I love the name of her blog Motherhood is Not for wimps http://damomma.com/
I link to who I read. If they don’t link back that’s okay and all, but If I’m reading them, I hope they’re reading me. But they don’t have to. Cause I’m pretty boring anyway. haha
I use blogroll and I link because I like the blog not because they link to me. If I find I haven’t visited a blog in a while or lost interest I delete and move on. I click on half of mine in the mornings and half in the evenings if possible. I am also guilty of clicking on Mary’s at fireflies and frogs cause she has some awesome links on her sideboard.
This is a REALLY good idea! If you don’t mind, I may have to file it away for a rainy day…
As far as one that you don’t have on your list that you might like, I’d suggest http://mk-cadeaux.com/. She’s a fantastic writer and never fails to make me giggle and think at the same time!
I’m somewhere in between a reciprocal linker and something else. If I find someone has linked to me, I try and read through their archives a little and see if its one that I would want to read on a daily basis. But my list is mostly sites that have caught me eye and that I try to read on a daily basis.
I love love http://sitteninthehills64.blogspot.com/
and am excited to meet her in August.
I don’t reciprocate links just because someone has me on their blogroll.I do try and read mine top to bottom as often as I can.
I also run a once a month “audition” for people and add one ( sometimes more) names to my blogroll following the 48 hours. It is usually someone I know I want to keep returning to read.
It is actually that 48 hour period now ( that was subtle no ? )
Generally, I’m a reciprolinker but I use bloglines for all my regular reads. Every six months or so, I clean out my ‘roll to keep down the closed blogs, etc. One of my most amusing reads each day that I don’t see on your ‘roll is http://honestyrain.com If you like to read about daily life with a fun spin on it, check her out.
i have a blogroll that i use, i visit everyone on it at least once a week, over half i visit everyday. i don’t see jay on your list, she’s at http://saintvodkaofthemartini.blogspot.com/, she always has something interesting to say, sometimes funny, sometimes serious, always different.
This is such a great idea, I may have to “borrow” it. I have been thinking that I need to branch out a little on my daily reads. I use bloglines. I try to only blogroll the ones I really look forward to reading, but there are one or 2 that I linked to just because they had blogrolled me. There are also one or two that have not been heard from in a while, but who I keep hoping will return. I would like to point you in the direction of http://justaskjudy.blogspot.com/
She has the most wonderful collections and photos and stories to go with them. And also http://www.sarcasmoscorner.com/ , proud momma that I am.
I like Zazzafooky alot. I relate to her and at the same time she’s had a life so much crazier than mine.
http://www.zazzafooky.com
I started out a recipro linker because I was just so honored that anyone would want to link me. I tried to read them all too. It got too much to handle. Now I have my list divided into my daily must reads and the ones I wish I had more time for. And if I lose that connection with someone, where I just don’t relate anymore I have been taking them off the roll. Slowly weeding them out.
In the beginning I was a reciprolinker, but then discovered that those blogs were the ones I visited the least often, if ever.
Now I figure, if someone blogrolls me~kudos to their good taste! LOL (or mental health issues, whatever)
I DO recipro-visit people who leave me comments for the first time, but I only blogroll the ones I know I’ll get around to read because I love what they have to say.
Plus, I already don’t comment as much as I should lately to the people who I AM comfortable and familiar with.
I see some wonderful people have already pointed you in the direction of some MORE wonderful people that I was going to recommend…justaskjudy, honestyrain..
A MUST READ of mine (because I love her wonderful *AUTOGRAPHED JUST FOR ME* books)
Thumper, at kathompson.blogspot.com
Oh, I know you would love the wonderful Tammy at http://huladoula.thezeroboss.com/; she’s a lovely person. You know, like you.
As you may know, I do not have a blogroll yet. I am working on it, though. I keep my favorites list, and one I read everyday and enjoy is
http://anonymousrowhouse.blogspot.com
I’ve actually found a lot of blogs through your blog links and mentions since I’ve read Petroville.
I try to visit every site that leaves me a comment and read it. If I connect with something, I bookmark it and go back. If I like it or connect with it over the upcoming weeks, then I add it.
I’ve found a couple really interesting blogs lately, although I haven’t been blog reading as much the past month or so.
This one, has captured me with her interesting writing and amazing storytelling:
http://chapternext.typepad.com/open_book/
Sitting Still is another great read that’s funny and really connects with me for where the writer is at in her life right now:
http://sittingstill.typepad.com/sitting_still/
http://childsplayx2.com/
I only link to blogs that I have a ‘personal’ feeling for…something is there that makes me just love to read their posts. Some are ‘famous’, like dooce or fussy, but most are “chatting at my kitchen table” kind of folks. Like you!
I’m always flattered when I find a blog that I didn’t know about, but has mine linked. That’s always nice, isn’t it?
Anyway…I don’t think I saw Kim in your blogroll. Her blog is hilarious and the tone is something that always gets me thinking.
“I Wasn’t Always Like This…”
http://my10kidfamily.blogspot.com/
I often forget about my blogroll, as I read everything via bloglines. My blogroll changes rarely and I couldn’t tell you the reasoning behind most of them being there. And to be honest, I have no clue who links to me, so that has nothing to do with it.
If you want to scope for new reads, there are about 100 there to choose from spanning a spectrum of interests, styles and personalities. Poking around other people’s blogrolls is how I find my new favorites, and it blows my mind how many wonderful folks are out there in Cyberia.
My blogroll is full of people I enjoy reading and I try to read them almost every day. I have a few that I visit every single day… I use the blogroll star thingy to tell me who has updated… That often helps me decide who I am going to visit. You might enjoy reading Nicole she’s at: nicolewilker.com/nicole/blog She’s funny as heck, but the girl can’t spell for nothing! So – if typos bother you – go elsewhere!! :-)
LadyBug
One of my favorite blogs is by an aussie mom. She is fun to read and I like the fact she updates almost everyday. Check her out at
http://wolfgirlkitty.blogspot.com/
I also wanted to let you know that I’m going to take avantage of all these new links and check some out for myself. What a great idea.
Journal of a Writing Man
Why didn’t mine show up? Was it the “bold” html I used?
Besides you and your cousin, here are my top must reads everyday:
http://www.dooce.com
http://mandajuice.typepad.com/
http://www.whoorl.com/
http://www.secret-agent-josephine.com/blog/
Hmm. I don’t really read anyone other than those on my blogroll. I’m not big on linking to someone just because they linked to me, and I don’t expect those I read to link to me. I have to have a reason to link you. And I do delete links, although rarely.
I can’t believe you don’t have Chris on your blogroll.
She is my absolute favorite.
http://thebigyellowhouse.blogspot.com
(Thanks Peggy! That is a huge compliment):lovestruck: :lovestruck:
I try to reciprolink because usually I LOVE the blogs that link to me.
I try to keep my blogroll to a minimum of the ones I look forward to reading.
I have others on my favorites list too for when I have more free time.
I don’t see Tisha Sharp on your list. Texarkana physical therapist who meets some classic customers. Take a peek.
If I like it, I link it. If it does not hold my interest or they never update – they come off. I have a select group that I loyally try to read EVERY DAY!!! The others I try to pop in on at least once to twice a week.
I am with sleeping mommy – I adore TJ over at Zazzafooky – We have been blog buddies for quite some time now – make sure you read through her archives about her life growing up – MAN!
I also love Fickle Chic because she is like a long lost twin – she parents just like I do!
And well, you know my relationship with you!
Love the new look, MommaK!
Mostly my blogroll contains just what I like to read. There are a few reciprocal linkies I leave in there from the early days to support those who were very supportive of me when I started blogging.
In general, I don’t care about reciprocal linking. I link what I like to read. If someone links to me, I figure they like reading me, and that’s cool too. I don’t feel obligated to link back.
:pleasantry:
ooooooooooooooo, i love it!!!
I thought your blogroll had EVERYBODY on it
Love the new digs. Leanne does a great job.
I read Book Girl everyday. Not sure if she is on your blogroll or not.
I tend to save blogs to my favorites and if I find myself going back, a lot, I add them to my blogroll. I am going to change my design soon and when I do my blogroll will be weeded out to the blogs I like to read everyday.
I love the NEW LOOK!! Awesome!!
Oh and I love Lisa B In Da City!
http://www.lisabindacity.com/
She got my Perfect Post award last month!
Boo. Bah. Humbug. Forgot to give you the URL.
http://tishasharp.com There, that wasn’t so tough.
Your new look is SO FUN! Love it!
I visit everyone who visits me. Then I visit some on the TT blogroll, or shop either the MommaK or Interstellarlass fav’s. I blogroll only my favorites aka People who comment more than once or blogs I feel the public should have access to. I moved Leanne off because she has cut back a little on bloglife, but I still visit a few times a week just to check out her incredible artwork and see how she’s faring.
One of my favorite blogs lately is Bone The blog name is “If You Read Only One Blog This Year”. He’s an exceptional writer. I love his stories! We bond over Seinfeld most of the time. He’s like that fraternal twin, Jason Priestly, good to a fault brother you wish you could lean on when life really gets tough.
I guess I’d have to say two of the funniest reads on my blogroll are Karlababble, and Tony of Fuggettaboutit. Check them out, I think you’ll enjoy. Have a wonderful day!
http://www.karlababble.blogspot.com
http://fuggettaboutit.blogspot.com
WOW Love the site!!!!!
Isn’t Survivor on this week??
Fun new look!
I link anyone who comments. I figure if they take the time to comment, they are a part of my community.
I’ll have to take a look at your blogroll to see who’s not on there.
Lovin’ the new look!
I use blogroll and like it. Everyone I link to are ones that I read on a regular basis. In the beginning of my blogging days, I tried to be a reciprolinker, but I find that its easier to blogroll those I visit on a regular basis or else that blogroll gets mighty long.
As for one of my favorite bloggers….visit Lazy Daisy, she has a wonderful sense of humor, and she also can write some pretty inspirational posts! Hope you visit her!
i don’t like the recipri-roll as a standard. i mean, if i find a new blog i really love through comments i read it for a while to make sure i love it for more than a week or two. if it really touches me, makes me laugh, or just inspires me in some way i like to add it. but i’ve had situations where i put people on the list and then later wanted to edit it for various reasons, and people get upset. really upset. and that’s just not for me. i want to share my very very favorite blogs, the ones i read almost religiously, and that’s it for now. when i get a redesign up and can do different categories maybe i’ll add more (like what you have), but until then i have to keep it pared down. i mean, i have at least 70 blogs on my bloglines feed reader right now and i just can’t list all of them on my page, people would get lost in the list.
that’s my (long-winded) opinion anyway. that being said, i highly recommend Ze Frank’s blog. he is freaking hilarious (check out his links to lots of other fun things he’s done to look at on the front page, too) and also he’s been doing a daily “truth” video post every weekday lately covering news topics with his VERY funny twists.
crap! the link didn’t show up. here it is.
zefrank.com/
Love the new digs.
I enjoy http://www.therockbitch.com and I think she is one of the few you don’t have that I have.
Wow, I love your new look!!!
Sadly I do not even have my blog roll set up. I really need to get on it. I don’t think I would add my entire bloglines list but I figure as much as I enjoy some blogs I read, I should link them.
One blog I enjoy reading, is http://frankiecantrelax.blogspot.com She’s some supersmart scientist Dr. and hilarious on top of it.
Where IS your blogroll?? I can’t see it and it’s all the fault of this alien computer I’m using while my Powerbook is in the repair shop…anyway, I don’t remember you having: http://www.pureflorida.blogspot.com/ and he’s a swell person with a very interesting blog.
Hey! Ola! I can’t play best post this month because I have been away…but I’m working my way around and I promise to be back in the loop next month. I have sorely missed you.
Oh My Gosh. I thought your winter wonderland was wonderful, but girl, this takes the cake. You have my new favorite blog design. Ever. You and Susie Sunshine. This ROCKS!
We have talked about this before, haven’t we? My blogroll is filled with bloggers I adore, but I’d like to add even more. I just have to figure out how to roll up my blogroll so that it doesn’t take up so much space.
Here are some good (hilarious) reads you may not have read before:
http://www.niihaus.com
http://www.mom-101.blogspot.com
http://onewomansworld.blogsome.com
OMG! What a fab design! Leanne is SO talented. This is really cool and kinda different, too, but VERY cute.
http://sprinkleshouse.blogspot.com/
She is a wonderful writer and is down to earth!
I love to visit my bloglist friends as often as possible, and also look at other comments there and visit them for the first time.
Incidentally, this must be the best looking blog I’ve ever seen.
Love your new look!!
xo
LBC
I add a site to my blogroll when I find that I am reading them everyday. That works best for me.
I have to say your new home is bee-u-ti-ful. Miss Leanne did a fantabulous job for you. I know you will enjoy ‘living’ here.
My T13 is up.
I recommend my blog. Kidding! LOL
I just had to drop in a see your new look. It’s breathtaking!
Love the new look~~~-it’s so cottage beach like- my fav.
what’s up with new house? can I uncross my fingers yet?
and I too find alot of my blogs thru you- i don’t know how to link and all that cool stuff- christ!- i just figured out how to cut and paste- I suck i know!
I guess I’m a reciprolinker (sp?). I do add ones I really like a lot, but when I first started out, I would add anyone that had a nice blog. Now I just kinda hold out until I really like them. I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings if I take them down. I have cleaned house periodically, and feel horrifically guilty when I do.
I forgot –

*You might have the last 2…can’t remember.
please tell me how someone designs something so lovely. what program does she use?
Allow me to introduce you to Jolie. She recently stumbled across my site and I checked her out and really enjoy her. She is new to the blog world though.
Anyone who wants to link to me is welcome. I link to the blogs that I read “regularly”. However, I am finding more and more blogs that I check into and I find my blogroll is getting quite large. I think I’m going to make it a page of its own and link on my side bar. I guess that puts me somewhere in the middle.
I started out as a recriprolinker too. And have since been slowly been refining my blogroll – adding new ones I truly like and/or have formed blogging relationships with (many via T13!) and also removing a few I found I really didn’t have interest in.
My problem is with people who visit me every once in awhile… even if I don’t think I have much in common, and don’t find myself “eager” to visit their blogs… I will reciprocate. Don’t worry, you are not one of those MommaK! You I love. But there are a couple who visit me every once in awhile, that I feel compelled to return the favor, even if I don’t truly enjoy it. Sad. Polite though, I suppose.
Amazingly, one of my favorite bloggers, Prolly All The Time, is not on your blogroll. I love her because she is wickedly funny. http://prolly.blogs.com/prollyallthetime/
