Identity Crisis

What was I thinking….

Does the name that you chose for your blog or your cyber self still fit you comfortably today? Do you wish you could go back in time and change it?

I do.

MommaK came from CA. My friend there called herself Momma Dawn and she dubbed me MommaK____. Instead of calling us Mrs. So-and-So or ma’am, our Brownie troop called us by our Momma names and they quickly stuck. Every momma was a Momma Something-or-Other and that’s just the way it was.

When I began this blog last January, I had no idea what to call myself. Choosing a name for my blog was easy and I still like my choice. However, “MommaK” is another story. I chose it because, at the time, I thought it was cute. At the time, I thought that only people who know me in real life would be reading this blog. Again…what was I thinking?

Alas, I’ve outgrown my name. “MommaK” is so …blah. The name makes me feel old and fat. It sounds like I should be a full time mommy blogger and talk about my stretch marks and how to make homemade play dough. (I do have a good recipe if you need one) I want something sassy and sweet with a touch of bad girl in the mix. I’m too young to be frumpy - online or off!

As you can tell, I’m not thrilled…

But what can I do?

Can I change my name and still be found and remembered out here?

Or would I get lost?

Prince did it.

What's his name again?

P Diddy did it too.

Can I call you Mr. P?

Or is it just Diddy now?

I want to do it.

I want to change my name. Will you help?

And for that name which is no part of thee -Take all myself!

What should my new name be?

There will be a vote later…

If you really love me, feed me in your reader!

You love me. You really love me. Dontchya?

  • I think you should use your first name. Being a public presence on the web, I’m not big on privacy, but I can understand why other people are. Your first name would still allow you some anonymity.

As for change, I think one’s blog should constantly reflect who its author is. I changed the name of my blog once and I’ll never be sorry. Your readers are devoted. We’ll keep up!
(Especially when you have Twizzlers to steal…

    :raspberry:

  • I love my name… I’ve had it almost since i got on the Internet….

    How about…

    Hot-Momma K

  • I get bored easily, so I always want to change my blog design and name. Right now if I could change everything I would change it all to: Teiwaz. No one else would get it, but I would and that is where I am right now.

(Teiwaz(pronounced “Tay-waz” is the name of a rune that symbolizes (sp?) the spiritual warrior)

Anyway, what is going on in your life right now that you could use as a nickname if you do not want to use your real name.

  • how about adding to the name like

    Sexy mommaK
    or Sweet MommaK
    or sassy mommaK

That way when we saw mommaK we would still now it was you?

  • i periodically change my template because my mood or personality suddenly does not fit the old one. as for my name… i’m still gonna go with xtessa till i’m old and gray.

name suggestions… that’s a tough one. go with whatever fits you the best!

  • I think you should keep it. It is hard enough to maintain an identity in blogland - that is why I feel stuck on Blogspot.

There is nothing wrong with MommaK.

  • umm…. errr….

    “ForKaMoK”

    Formerly Known As MommaK.

    There.

  • The Petroville Mistress

  • hmmm…

    PetroBabe?
    Petroville Princess?
    P-Dog?

    …okay, i’m totally not helping.

  • Hows about Petra from Petroville? Or justr plain Petra

  • Oh my goodness. I don’t think I could ever change my name. I’m Indigo through and through. :-)

    How about Twizzler?

  • Gee, that’s a toughie…
I dunno… I thought MommaK suited you just fine… Maybe you think frumpy, but I certainly don’t. You think old - Hah! Let me know when old age sets in - you young whippersnapper! And, hey - where did fat come from? You don’t have an ounce of flab on your bod - trust me I stand behind you in Jazz… You are perfect the way you are regardless of what you do with your blog identity…

  • I had this dilemma about a month into blogging. I use my first name for my ID, but my Blog name came from a very cool technique. Spell check your first and last name. You would me amazed at the suggestions! That’s where I got Cheeky Lotus. So, now you know my secret .

Try it - you might like it!

  • Change it if you want!
Put a “FNA” or “AKA” with it for a while, maybe.
I just use my real first name. Of course, I like it and I legally changed it “in real life”.
My mom is the only one who has ever called me “Anne”.

  • I like the spellcheck idea…I just did mine and it came up as Neatly Tarot! Cool!

  • I have changed my blog name a few times. But I still keep my name. I get bored with my blog name also and my blog layout so I change it every so often!

  • LOL, I had to use my (boring) real first name because I knew I was not skilled enough to pull off consistently using a fake one or even a nickname. So kudos for doing it this long!

But I understand what you mean by the identity crisis of it all and wanting your name to better reflect who know know you are. And let me say first of all that whatever name you change to we will all OF COURSE still love you just the same.

Secondly, I like the first name idea - just the simple, sweet name (easily spelled out with household objects… ).

  • You can change it to whatever you want, but I have to tell you that MommaK is already firmly ensconced in my mind.
Just like “monty” has sort of become my name, even to ME. I actually answer to it.

  • Well, I did it. I don’t see why you can’t. I don’t have any clever ideas, though. Dammit.

  • How about Cher?

Don’t ask me where that came from ‘cos I don’t know.

  • I use my real name. First only. Of course, there are a bajillion Jennifers in the worlds, so it’s still somewhat benign. Nom de plumes are intensely personal. I think whatever you choose? Has to come from something you feel in your heart. Not to be cheesy or anything. You know what I mean?

  • I think if you change it, you should use your real name. Kissy Lee. Seriously, your name would totally not give you away to the Internuts.

I like my name and my blog name. Now I’m working on getting offa Blogspot.

  • Sex Kitten? Flip-flop queen? I’m with ya on the name change thing though..it’s hard to say Hi J&J’s Mom!! Makes me feel old…Ms. Purple works

  • How about Kay?

I like MommaK, but if it’s not suiting you, change it!

You could be the Petro Lady from Petroville. or some other P name…

  • I like Petra…it sounds so European…and you’re blonde. I picture a Bridgette Nielson in her hot years type of look for you when I hear that name.

That or you could come up with some really obnoxious sign and be the “Blogger formerly known as MommaK.”

Whatever you pick, we’ll love you…even if you keep the Momma!

  • I just thought of another one…
    How about

    K’Pet

    Kind of JLo-ish, dontcha think?

  • Change is good, though a Rose by any other name……

I’ll be by no matter what you call yourself. I tried that spell check thing, but it said “no errrors found”. Of course my first name is a noun!

  • Use a name from a character you played.

Hmmmm. Dolly or Maria sound more frumpy than MommaK, which I never thought was frumpy in the first place. And hey, I’m frumpy and what’s wrong with that anyway?!!

What about a Shakespeare name. You’re always quoting Will.

  • Hope

Are we already voting? Spell your name backwards or something, if you like your anonymity. Or just pick one that reflects how you feel. It’s a woman’s prerogative to change her mind or anything else she choses.

  • I like the idea of a Shakespeare name. Nothing frumpy about that.

  • I like MommaK - I don’t think of you as anything but a cool chick who is a mom.

But I understand, which is why I went with my first name. I have no idea what you could use though - I stink at that! I don’t like the title of my blog though, especially with all the stupid google hits I get…I feel like I should be talking like a gangsta’. So…when I do go off of Blogger, I think I’m going to change the blog name too.

  •

    Um…I don’t know. I’m horrible at picking names….let’s see…

    Queen of Petroville

    Petroville Princess

    OneHotMomma

  • Since I’ve been reading you, it’s been hard for me to shake the inital visual image. Let me explain. When my older two kids were in grade school there was little girl they played with who lived with her Grandmother. Her mother was a loser. Momma K was what she called her Grandmother, and so, of course, that’s where I go for the visual. While Momma K was a kind, sweet woman who loved her granddaughter with all her heart, she was far from the image that a person would want to evoke when dreaming up a visual for themself.

  • I vote for using your first name. Just plain K without the Momma sounds like a sassy sex-kittenish name to me. ;-)

  • I guess I’ll always be Captain Picard. However, if my Intern decided to go on his own…

An exotic name would be great.

  • Sherry

Oh NO….I haven’t been here for so long…I love MommaK and I think it suits you just fine.
I don’t think of an old woman. I think of a sweet Momma. Please don’t change it.

  • Sometimes I feel that way about my name and the thus the name of my blog. But I’ve shared my real first name and don’t feel so tied to “Sleeping Mommy” as an identity.

It doesn’t fit me quite like it used to–perhaps I’ll redefine it some day. Who know!

    I voted by the way.
