Icky, Icky – I See Your…

Are you any or all of the following ? :

A) A mother to 1 or more humans
B) Over the age of 21
C) Not legally blind
D) Not currently a vampire
E) Able to dress yourself

If you have answered yes to any of these questions, then you should not,
I repeat should not, walk out of the house with a visible hickey on your neck.

Today in jazzercise there was a woman who had a big honkin’ hickey on her neck for all to see. She could have answered yes to at least 4 out of the 5 questions above, so there was no excuse for her bad taste. She almost seemed to be flaunting her love mark with her low cut top and hair pulled up. Maybe she got lucky after a long dry season – who knows but I do know that my gag reflex was flaring up at the sight of it. I mean…come on!

I think the last time I had a hickey was in high school. Luckily we were allowed to wear turtle necks with our uniform skirts so they were easy to hide. It was always obvious when a girl would wear one on a hot day though but in retrospect, I appreciated the effort. No one wants to see your neck all marked up.
Not even you, Britney. Ugh.

Have you ever given or received a hickey?

When was the last time you were “marked by love”?

You love me. You really love me.

  • Oh my that is just wrong. I don’t think I have ever had one or given one. Crazy. I was last marked by love when I had my triplets! :yahoo:

  •

    Marked by love.

She should have been wearing this.

  • Ew….I agree with you 100%

But I will admit I used to get them and give them with my husband as a joke when we first started dating…but not where anyone can see

  • Oh, my…15 years of marriage…it has been awhile! That is freaking hilarious though…you should have embarassed her by telling her, “You have some lipstick or your neck” or “Are you breaking out on your neck?” hahahahaha…

  • I haven’t even thought about hickey’s in 15 years let alone have one! Sheesh.

  • Oh, my.It is so long ago I don’t even remember the last time I got one. Which doesn’t mean I am love deprived :lovestruck: !!

  • HF

    Yuck, I hate them.

  • Ugh! I loathe those things! I’ve gotten them but been completely embarassed by it :shame: . For some reason, my now-husband thought it was hysterical to give them to me knowing how much I detest them.

  • GROSS! I like Steph’s idea about pretending you thought it was lipstick or something.

  • Sheesh-give the woman a break, Maybe she got splashed by hot soup! A few years go I was stepping out of the shower and my hubby was walking by and gave me an impulsive little kiss on te neck.I guess because my skin was wet, and the fact that I bruise easier than a peashm it left a mark. Mortified , I trued to cover it up to go to work. My uniform isz not a turtleneck so I did the best I could with makeup and hairstyle, I almost pulled it off, but one coworker who has the mindset of a neandrethal spied it. He said he never pictured me as a wild woman. I didn’t try to deny it.

  • A hickey on a grown woman. That is disturbing.

  • I gave my husband a hickey when we were dating. I wasn’t trying to or anything. I’m still not sure how I did that! But I was definitely in the vicinity, so… I can’t deny it was me.

  • My husband and I got a little drunk in Las Vegas in 2000 and I came home marked by love. I was completely and appropriately embarrassed!

  • ICK!

I have gotten and given hickeys.

I have not been marked by love in ages. Although, it might be nice to be marked by love. As long as my kids can’t see it!

  • I hate them. Ew.

  • I have to admit I have given and received some…like a million years ago! I agree that a hickey that is visible is icky.

  • LOL great post! I have given a few hickeys, mostly to myself on the arm! lol (as a kid!) but I have not ever gotten one, I did not want anyone to know what I was up to! LOL I am just not a hickey wearing kind of girl.
but the thought of getting one sounds nice right about now!

  • Hope

Did amyone try to get rid of a hickey by rubbing it with a brush? Seems in high school that was going around as a way to hide them.

  • i’ve given and gotten. aren’t they dangerous now, i thought because it’s blood being sucked out, it’s kind of an aids issue?

  • ‘Hickey’ isn’t a word we use in Britain!

  • HICKEY!?! I forget how to “do” those! :camouflage:

  • Hmm. Can’t say as I have!

  • Oh, I have given and received QUITE a few – but not in a long time and usually not where you can see them

  • Eeewwww…. Now I wish I went to class today! I always miss all the fun!
    LadyBug

  • Never given one, never had one, never likely too.

  • Sherry

    This is a hilarious entry!!!
    You are so funny MommaK!!
Yes, I have received many, but never really got into the sucking of anothers neck. But of course this was way back when.
I think it is 10 times worse when there is more then one!
PS Is that really a hickey on Britney’s neck or is it her HAIR??

  • Is a hickey one of them imitation blouse things worn under a sweater?

  • The last time I remember having a (publically visible) hickey was when S and I first started dating. His little brothers saw it and thought I’d been attacked by a vampire.

  • I don’t even remember when I last had a hickey! What low class tasteless trash! Will you hold my hair while I barf please?

  • Officer Mom

Maybe she was burned by the curling iron! Give a girl a break.

  • Geeze, I was about 18-19, I guess. I sure didn’t wear it as a badge of honor, though. I was one of those who always sported a turtleneck when I had one.

  • My husband did it to me once when he was pissed off at something I had done…grabbed me, gave the hickey and then laughed. I wore a turtleneck for a couple of days.

  • I just think it looks tacky…if I get the feeling someone is going to bestow a ‘love mark’ on me, I pull away and give ‘em a stern look. Sometimes a knee to the groin.
    LOL

Now, I’ve had them in places that don’t show (unless I’m nekkid)….but we’ll not talk about that right now.

  • I definitely gave and received hickeys in my past life, hehe. Had not gotten marked lately, though. Maybe on valentine’s Day?……

  • Talk to me, Goose.
