Toetally Gross

Tuesday, January 24th 2006

About two month ago I injured my big toe. Don’t know how. Don’t remember exactly when. All I do know is that I was in some hot high heels at a formal affair when all of a sudden I noticed that my toe was throbbing.

Gold shoes

When I finally was able to get down there to investigate, I discovered that my big toenail had cracked all the way down to the cuticle. It was still attached - but only on one side. ( I must have kicked some major ass and not remembered…

Last night, I was taking my socks off to get in to bed when tragedy struck. The band-aid I was using to secure my half-a-toe-nail secured itself to my sock instead and when I whipped off my sock….off came the whole freaking toenail!!!

Oh. My. Gosh.

Did you hear me scream? Yes, it hurt. Yes, it bled. Yes, it’s gross.
Wanna see? No you don’t…

Tell me a yucky foot story. Pretty please?

If you really love me, feed me in your reader!

You love me. You really love me. Dontchya?

  • You already know my foot fungus story issue, don’t you?

What else? I shut Hannah’s toe in the car door and the nail turned purple and later fell off.

That’s not very funny, is it?

  • No toenail issues just a couple of grueling forth toe operations to remove bone spurs - and oh - how about the Planters wart that had to be BURNED off. After 3 unsuccessful attempts at the burn torture, they shot it with vitamin “A” and it disappeared - all at the same tender age of your darling one. My sympathies! How long does it take for the nail on the Big toe to grow back anyway - 5 years?

  • OMG I won’t even click to see it. *hurl* I have a weird fear of feet.

I did what you are describing two years ago - same exact thing happened with the Band-Aid stuck to the sock. O.M.G. I don’t know who was more freaked out - me or my husband!

  • Uuuuhhh…. I don’t have a yucky toenail story, sorry. But if it makes you feel better, I actually felt a tear fall from my eye, imagining the pain (and horror!!) you probably felt at that time!

  • Oh my goodness!!! OUCH!

I’d love to trade my feet in for a newer pair.

I have a band-aid around one of my big toe-nails too! I cut it way too short - so short that it was painful to wear a sock. So I’m shielding it a little.

I have plantar fasciitis which means that my heels get very very sore, and I walk like a little old lady when I get up in the morning.

Like I said. New feet, please!

I hope your toe heels quickly!!! It looks painful. Follow the doctor’s orders so that it doesn’t get infected!!

  • I sooooo hurt for you. OW OW OW OW OWWWW!!!!!

Bad toe, BAD! Leave my MommaK alone!!!

  • OUCH! What do you want to hear. I was a reflexologist in another life.

That was my favorite job actually. Why did I stop? I remember we bought this business that was supposed to make everything better.

  • It’s all recovery from here!!! I have no foot story to report, other than getting athlete’s foot from roller skates in Arkansas. Boring!!!

  • AAAAaagh! Why, oh why did I look? grin

Here’s my horrid foot story…to pay you back.

  • yowtch!!!

i have one for you… when i was a teenager, i cut my big toenail wrong so it developed an ingrown. it was swollen up and very painful… then, tragedy struck. a friend of mine stepped on that toe so the sore burst and out came pus. gross right? not the end of the story.

to remove the ingrown toenail, i had to have a mini-operation. my big toe was injected with anesthesia and then the doctor pulled out the whole toenail.

my right big toe had no nail… as in nada… for about two weeks… till it started to grow back again.

    whew.

  • Oh yeah.. that’s gotta hurt. I had a baby toenail like that only mine was right down the middle of the nail. Keep the polysporin on it and try and forget about it while it heals.

  •
Ouch! That WAS some major ass you kicked! I’ve got lots of catch up to do, girl. You’ve been in my thoughts. Lots and lots going on.

Take care of yourself and your toe!

  • Um…OUCH! I felt that through the Internet! Poor Momma! Ok well I have a story for ya. I was preparing for dinner and while walking with 2 pounds of frozen meat in my hand I tripped and dropped it on my second toe…I was wearing no shoes…it HURT! After the screams subsided I walked around on it all day and then realized it was really hurting so I investigated and found it to be very fat and a pretty shade of BLACK. EW. That happened about 2 weeks ago…still hurts.

  • Oh I HAD to look and Oh, ow, oh, I am so sorry!

  • OH OH OH I forgot my yucky foot story!!

This one time? At band camp? I had a huge lump on my foot. And it was SO. GROSS. It grew, and it grew, and eventually it sqwished the nerves and I couldn’t feel my two littlest piggies!

So. I hopped in my car (on one foot! No. I lie. I walked, I just couldn’t feel two of my piggies. I mentioned that earlier.) and I went for surgery, and this SUPER DOOPER ECSTATIC PODIATRIST was SO HAPPY TO REMOVE MY LUMP!

She was SO FREAKIN HAPPY! I wanted to marry her. I’ve never met someone SO HAPPY! But, alas, I’m married, she was engaged, and I’m not even a lesbian so don’t go there.

Not much of a scary foot story is it? It’s kinda hilarious. BUT I HAVE ICKY PICS! See? I always come through for you, right at the last minute.

    The Lump : Before
    The Lump : After

The ickiest part? It was underneath the top layer of muscle on my foot, growing like a spiderweb between my tendons and nerves.

    IEEEEWWWW!

    The end.

  • Ok… I’m trying to be supportive here, but.. EEEEWWWW!
    Hope it feels better soon!
    LadyBug

  • Ow!!!!!!!! I have something funky going on with my one big toenail. I’m hoping I just scraped it on something and it’s not something actually growing on it. I figure it should be all grown out, oh, say about July.

  • My toenails are always painted. I mean always. From running, they are black and blue, half falling off, half fallen off, and blistery. Not a pretty sight.

  • I’m thinking it’s good thing it didn’t come dislodged in the glutius maximus of the posterior you kicked. That must have been some boot…

  • Once I had toe jam…

    :winking:

Seriously, as a child I went barefoot almost constantly (and I still dislike shoes.) I stubbed my toes more often than I care to think about, so my toes were almost constantly scabbed!

One time, I rode my bike while I was barefoot, and my big toe got caught in the pedal. Do you know what it’s like to try to walk with a bike attached to your foot? It ain’t easy, let me tell ya!

  • Foot stories are NOT something I want to think about!

  • Hope

I was getting a pedicure and looked over to the next chair and almost threw up. The woman had the ugliest, yellow, nasty nails to go along with her crusty feet. Rather than boil my eyeballs I changed salons.

  • OUCH!!! That should make Jazzercise fun!

  • I’m taking your word for it on this one. I’m going to pass on looking. But I’m sympathizing. I can imagine how bad that hurt. OW!

  • aaeeeeeiiiiiiii! It hurts to look!

  • Sweet J*sus…

I had a plantars wart removed from the bottom of my right foot…under the fourth toe. It grew back and I had to go through the surgery again ugly shoe boot and all. Doctor gave me an ativan the second time around because that time I KNEW whta to expect. No more feeling the needle go through the middle of the damn thing. Next thing I remember was throwing up in the drugstore parking lot…two millimeters from some woman’s open car door….

  • Poor thing! That looks painful!

I broke my toe when I pushed my leg into my jeans so forcefully (I was late for a date with my husband) that it broke when it kicked the floor.

  • I had this planter’s wart on the bottom of my foot. It kept getting bigger, and bigger. It was ugly, and I had it during the summer. I didn’t want to get it cut off because that would mean I wouldn’t be able to go into the water. I bought evey kind of wart pad known to mankind. It would get soft and swollen, and even yuckier looking. Fall came, and all kinds of things came up that were far worse than the wart…One day in March I looked at my foot and the damn thing was gone. I have no idea how it happened. This was two years ago, and there’s no trace of it.

  • GROSS! Okay, since you asked. This morning I was on the treadmill and I got so absorbed in a news story that I threw my hands up in the air and said, “Yeesh! You dope” (at you know who) and I did a George Jetson right off the back of the machine. And I caught my barefoot (ya, I do it barefoot) between the belt and the base and tore all the skin off the top of my foot. So now it’s that nasty seepy bloody kind of wound. Good? You asked…maybe I’ll go blog that. :-) Take care of your toe!

  • Officer Mom

Since starting my job from all the running I was forced to do in boots I developed a serious case of terribly dry feet. I lather them up every night and put socks on them but the next day they always look like the feet you’d find on a crack head.

  • there is no way i can look at that. you need to start wearing steel toes boots instead of those flip flops, those toes need protecting.

  • I have one for you. I had to have surgery last spring because I had a growth on the bone of my middle toe. The surgeon had to AMPUTATE the end of my toe. I no longer have a toenail on that foot. 10 toes. 9 toenails. No pedicures for the rest of my life.

  • Ouch Ouch Ouch!

My goodness that looks painful! I hope it doesn’t get infected and I hope it heals quickly.

Take care of your toe there.

  • Sherry

I only have a Yucky Finger story…I lost my finger nail just recently after trying to change the water bottle cooler at work……it took over 3 months for it to grow back. It looked Yucky too! Hope you heal fast!

  • I think bagofnothing could use that for the gross picture of the day….yuck

  • Okay I had those fake nails cemented to my fingers. I was opening up a window when all of a sudden all of the fake cement nails pulled off-along with my REAL nails….. lo and behold I had to go to emergency.

  • Andrea

Poor thing! I have no freaky toe issues… yours takes the cake for me! Has your hubby kissed it better?

  • I have horrible blisters on about five of my toes and red blisters all over the bottoms from an allergic reaction to my Lexapro! I figure it is better to stay on my crazy meds with blisters then to go crazy and be without blisters. Your toe looks painful.

  • honeybee

Didn’t realize so many of us have foot/toe problems. My toes nails curl, like curl hair, yes I also have curley hair, so they are a pain to keep cut to stay out of pain. But right now I’m having problems with a thumb nail. It hurts like an ingrown nail, but it insn’t ingrown. It hurts to put any pressure on it and throbs at times. Who know what this it!?!?!?

  • D

I too have a gross nail story but yours is worse so I won’t bore you… the thought of that one moment as you ripped the sock off and the way it must’ve felt - urp…makes me cringe! Maybe you should rest with your foot up and drink coffee or tea while blogging for a solid 48 hours or so?

  • Yikes! Sounds ouchy… Feel better!!!

  • Do I have a story for you??!! Many years ago, I cut my big toe in a lawn mower accident, and had to have 22 stitches in it. It got infected and I had to keep my foot wet for 3 weeks so it wouldn’t heal over the infected area. While it was wet, the plantar wart on the ball of my foot began to spread, and at the end of it - I had almost 3 square inches of the sole ofmy foot covered in plantar warts.

you guys are all very lucky!
    i am a 14 year old girl.
and since about grade 2, my big toenails fell off for no reason.
still, they havn’t grown back and i’ve been told they never will.
    i have a question.
would u be freaked out if you saw a girl like me, with no toenail on the streets?
i still wear thongs, but get SO conscious when i go out. even with friends.
    =] count yourselves LUCKY!

Im currently having a few days off work after tearing off my big toe toenail. I have huge feet and huge toenails. I took photos but don’t know how to add them. I was wearing open toed shoes, moving a desk at work. We had been rearranging the shop all day and had almost finished when I miscalculated my step as I put the desk down. I thought I had stubbed my toe as my toe felt a little twinge of pain. I looked down, then looked up again at my boss with a huge shocked look on my face and my boss was like ‘What, what?” and I’m like “I’ve ripped my toenail off!” and shes like “Your kidding!” and comes around to have a look and then goes all squeamish and into a big panic and I’m standing there waiting for it to start to hurt and bleed real bad, but it didn’t. So there I am now sitting on the floor looking at my toenail sitting at rightangles to my very raw and red toe. My husband worked at the store next door so he took me to emergency.

All the nurses and patients freaked as I went through the different sections before I actually got to see the doctor. She was great, but the anaesthetic needles were EXCRUCIATING!!! Whats worse is local anaesthetic doesnt work on me, and doctors don’t believe me when i tell them so I’ve had many little ops without the help of anaesthetic grrrrr. So the nurse got ‘the gas’ for me to suck on. That helped a little.

So I’m laying here in my loungeroom, my toe is now throbbing in sympathy with you all. The Doc gave me some really strong codeine painkillers, so thats really cool.

I never cried once….until my husband told me that I wouldnt be able to go to the gym for 2 weeks!!! That was what hurt the most….

All these foot/toe stories sound horrible, but yet I couldn’t stop reading!! I have a sort of mild toe story. I have always had foot troubles. My feet have always been very dry & I have to usually take extra attention to keep them from turning into rough gritty sandpaper. Well 1 night my boyfriend & I were watching tv together, I had my feet up on his lap. Well he has always loved feet so he was checking out my toes & noticed that my big toe seemed very swollen around the edges. So when he touched it he said it was warm to the touch & I noticed that it was a little sore. Upon further inspection, he squeezed my toe & all this pus came squirting out & since I didn’t believe him right away, he grabbed my cell phone & took a pic of it to show me up close & personal!
It was not my best side!!! LOL
