Thursday Thirteen – 7

Thirteen Things about MommaK today…

1. It’s getting cold here at night and all of the blessed bugs are dying off except for our little friends the ladybugs. Every year we get these tiny beauties buzzing all over the sunny side of the house. I wouldn’t be bothered if they stayed outside, but as you can see here, they clearly do not abide by my wishes.

2. Last week my 10 year old’s soccer team had a Parents vs. Kids scrimmage. We had three moms, one dad and a couple of siblings on our team against twelve 10 & 11 year olds in the prime of their lives. Not a fair match up at all but we beat them anyway. Mr. Dad was taking our little game a bit too seriously. At one point in the first half, a girl scored a goal and we all cheered. He was quick to call out, “Good shot Jenny…but you really were off-sides so that wouldn’t have actually counted in a real game”. Ummmm…yeah, Mr.-I-wish-I-was-assistant-
coach-of-a-preteen-rec-team, thanks for that tid-bit of wisdom. Oh, and I only ate the grass once.

3. We had over a cord of wood delivered on Saturday which makes me, the Mr. & my wood stove very happy & toasty.

4. Lately I’ve been shamelessly walking the girls to the bus stop in my flannel pjs. I just stand behind them when the cars drive by. What does that mean? Have I just given up?

5. When life is hectic and you’re doing back-flips just to keep up with the full plate you have in front of you, why is it then that you receive a heaping portion of emotional jambalaya with a side sauce of someone else’s problems? Just curious.

6. This weekend we had grand plans to go camping for the first time as a family. Those plans have now dwindled to include cooking on the grill and pitching the tent in the backyard. Sounds like a pretty safe first try to me.

7. I’m on week 2 of my HTML class and so far it has been going well. Tuesday night I was up until almost 2 am doing my assignment on tables. I was so thrilled when I completed it that I did a little dance around my computer. I considered emailing you all my only-pretty-to-me tables, but then I thought better of it. I’m such a nerd sometimes.

8. I am doing something very crazy tomorrow but I can’t tell you what it is. How’s that for a number 8?

9. Misty sent me the link to the flip-flop socks I was talking about yesterday. Santa, these are all I want in my stocking this year. (Yes, Santa reads my blog.)

10. Monday is Report Card Day (dun, dun, dun duuuuunnnnnnn). We will now see if stacking all of those books under their pillows each night actually paid off.

11. We had a Draculass and a Cowgirl on Horseback here this Halloween. I think we may have ended up with the most candy ever collected in family history. Unfortunately, I can already picture it on my ass.

12. Last week’s episode of Survivor left us with the two tribes merging as one. Now the cat fights and penis measuring can begin! Woo-hoo!

13. Leanne sent my pumpkin prize over yesterday. How cool will this look on my sidebar?

Very.

    4. There’s nothing wrong with flannel pajamas at the bus stop. Just please take the rollers out of your hair. If you have gotten that far, there’s no hope.

    5. The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, round and round… (you can finish the song if you’d like!)

I am still so depressed about my post-halloween stats, I may just drink my pumpkin pie spice coffee and doodle all day. :P

    12. Is it measured in cm or inches (cm just seems bigger)?
    13. Magnificently cool! Yayyyy for you!

This is the best I can do for Thursday 13. I keep forgetting about it. Oops.

    1) I love ladybugs!

    2) Well, at least the parents still won…

    4) I don’t blame you! I’m cool with it!

    5) I dunno, but I like the way you said it.

    6) Excellent plan.

    7) Woo Hoo! Figuring out tables is indeed a dancing feat!

    8) The mystery!

    9) Strange…

    11) HA HA HA!

    12) I might have to tune in if there’s going to be measuring…

    13) YAY for you!

    Here’s my 13!

Great list-I drive my kids to meet their carpool ride in my full PJ’s-I guess I better hope I don’t get a flat tire one of these days-

    My list is up-jave a great day-mommk

  • Lord girl, we got the ladybug invasion too! What IS IT with those critters??

  • That poster is the coolest! My compliments and congratulations!

  • Love your thursday thirteens! I’m playing this week too.

  • Learn all you can about tables. Get it down pat. Then forget it.

No one really uses them anymore. Most sites are now using CSS. :p

Oh — and always, always, ALWAYS remember to close your tags. When I was first learning HTML, my whole page just disappeared when I was working on tables. I spent an entire day searching for what I did wrong, and I finally found one little / that I had left out.

And always view a site in Firefox and/or Netscape. They make you adhere to strict coding, whereas IE is much more forgiving.

  • FTS is right! HTML is great, XHTML is even better, but CSS is a MUST!

  • Good morning!

My kids used to be deathly afraid of ladybugs. They called them “weedybugs” and would cry if they saw them. They’re over it now.

    Congratulations on your pumpkin!

I will check back tomorrow to see what your crazy act will be…

Here’s my 13 http://jenanddavin.blogspot.com/ I’ll go link to yours now!

  • flannel pjs at the bus stop- of course you haven’t given up, you are just being practical, yeah thats it!

And I can’t wait to see what happens tonight on Survivor. I forsee a blow up involving Jamie, but then that might just be the preview I saw, who knows.

    Here’s my thirteen:

  • I *LOVED* your pumpkin!!!!

  • Firstly, flannel pajama bottoms are all the rage among teens right now, so you fit right in. I see them everywhere.

Secondly, we had the big ladybug problem last year. An exterminator told us that if you have them in the house, that means a huge ball of them is somewhere, most likely in the attic. By ball, I mean BASKETBALL SIZED. OMG!!!!! You’ve got a ball of ladybugs in there! Tee hee!

  • Number 12 made me laugh!

  • “…a heaping portion of emotional jambalaya…”

Sheesh, you are SUCH A GOOD WRITER! Thanks, MammaK.

  • My college boy wears his rainbows all year, so I am thinking of getting him those socks, too! (He wore them on the first snowy day when we first moved up here…on a dare…and called me to pick him up at the bus stop after school! tee hee)

  • mmm-mmm, we just got more firewood too. I love the woodstove.

Hey, have a good time “camping” .

    Here’s my Thirteen

  • “Hurled all over the competition” — that is great! Awesome graphic.

Flannels at the bus stop? What’s wrong with that. Sounds like you’re the sensible parent!!

  • The drivers on the road by me would probably be surprised if I DIDN’T have my flannel pjs on when I took my son to the bus.

And CONGRATS ON YOUR BIG WIN! WHOOOHOOO! Nice award, too.

  • Congrats on winning the pumpkin contest! I think walking to the stop in pj’s is perfectly fine in the winter! In the summer then I would say no. Here is my linky… http://multiplemania.blogspot.com/2005/11/thursday-thirteen.html

  • I found your site via Sleeping Mommy. I love it! I read a few of your other entries and you totally deserved to win the last minute pumpkin carving contest. You’re so talented.

    I plan to visit frequently!

  • Can’t wait to hear what you call crazy. Will you tell us after tomorrow? Here’s my 13

  • Thursday Thirteen

I’m giving this Thursday Thirteen a try because Leanne is making me do it. I’m not normally a ‘meme’ type of person – that type of stuff requires waaaay too much comittment on my part. Kind of like the same reason I don&#…

  • Loved your thirteen! I had to skip this week because of the guest postings… still waiting on yours! hehehe

  • What a cool prize for the pumpkin contest!! OK… off to go watch Survivor now. Loved your list this week! I am going to try and get a Thursday Thirteen going someday soon, I just want to be sure I can commit to getting it done every week first. When I do – I’ll letcha know so you can link me!

Hey – if I ever need html advice, I can come to you now, right?????

  • love the emotional jumbalaya metaphor. It made me laugh.

Will you e-mail me your tables?

  • I’m considering making my son ride the bus in the morning just so I can wear my pjs to the bus stop.

    Here’s my 13.

  • “emotional jambalaya” hee. you’re funny.

  • Flannel PJS… well, it just depends on what the pattern is. If it’s a violent plaid or a large duckie print, you’ve given up (at least temporarily). If it’s anything else, you get a pass. ;o)

  • I can remember when I learned tables. Those buggers can be a pain in the butt sometimes. I recall a happy dance or two. Good Job!

I will be looking forward to hear what #8 is.

camping in the backyard is always good…

  • #1: hate bugs…
#2: I would have made a meal on the grass!
#3: love toasty with the family.
#4: Given up? What else would you wear?
    #5: I hate that when that happens. Morton salt; when it rains, it pours… {hugs}
    #6: Safe is good…
#7: email me your tables anytime. I’ll dance with you!
#8: You, doing something crazy? Get outa here!
#9: toe socks are wonderful! I have some, too! I’m sure Santa is listening.
    #10: Good luck to all!
#11: Good luck with that, too!
    #12: too funny!
    #13: love.it.

  • Hooray for your tables! I would have totally danced with you had you emailed them to me! Good going, MommaK.

Love that pumpkin carving award button thingy. Congrats, again.

PS- we want to know what the crazy thing is. Come on!

  • Hey! Love the jammies to the bus stop! I’ve done jammies to the mailbox (around the corner from the house) and no kiddos to hide behind either…’corse my jammies are sweats, but I’m not wearing a bra.

    Here’s my 13 http://lillyput.blogspot.com/ enjoy!

  • [...] In my Thursday 13 this week, I mentioned that I was doing something “crazy” on Friday but could not talk about it here. I still can’t but you can guess. [...]
