With a layer frost on the pumpkin and a fire in the wood stove, there is no denying that Fall is upon us here in Petroville. The girly-girls can see their breath in the mornings at the bus stop and Lillian has recently decided that she would rather stay in her warm bed than join me in seeing them off.
As much as I welcome the cooler temperatures and the death of all that buzzes, I lament over my one major annual wardrobe adjustment.
I hate giving up my flip-flops!
Here I am warming up my car with gloves on and flip-flops. Silly, I know.
(Misty, I need those damn toe socks!!)
What’s your most challenging seasonal adaptation?

Awwww shucks!!
xo
MommaK
You know mine!!! It is also flip-flops. My boss just commented this morning to me…”Isn’t it time to start wearing winter shoes?” – Yes, but I consider my flip flops all year long shoes!!!
I know how you feel. It hasn’t been quite that cold here yet but I wore my flip-flops in the snow last year!
I hate giving up my flip flops as well. The most challenging adaptation for me between summer and fall are the migraines. not fun.
Coats. I don’t like them. I don’t like wearing them, but I also hate being cold. So, I go outside choring in my t-shirt till the hairs on my arm spear one of the dogs (sorry, Frank). Then I pile on a sweater, then a Flannel jacket, and then realize I look like a linebacker, so I grudgingly pull out the parka. That lasts about 2 weeks when I then go in reverse order, till Flip Flop season is again joyously upon us.
I don’t give up the open toe slip ons until the very last minute. I wore them last year until the first snow. I hate socks and shoes and coats. I am not very good at slipper wearing either.
I don’t like that my skin gets so dry and itchy. I don’t like that during summer I think I have so many great fall clothes and then in the fall I think I have so many great summer clothes.
LOVE the pic! Too funny! I would say the sandals/flip-flop changeover is the most difficult. That and coats. And Hats. And scarves. And daylight-savings time. Oh hell, it’s all difficult to adapt to. Happy Fall to you TOO!
Hee hee!
I don’t like the whole dealing with boots thing… I don’t look forward to that! I like to just stay in my wooly clogs in the winter, but when I go anywhere I must put boots on to trudge out into the snow. Not looking forward to it! Luckily snow is nowhere in sight — yet!!
Changing the damn time on the damn “automatic” thermostat.
i love the fall but i hate the winter, i hate when there is so much so you have to wear boots.
That is such a great photo! You’re in denial, MommaK, you’re in SUCH denial!
Yep. Get some toe socks!!
Do you remember those Mork and Mindy socks, or are you to young for that. I think they were toe socks.
I hate winter! Hate, hate hate. That was my hardest thing about living in VA! So happy to be back in CA where I can where my sandals all year round.
I know! I hate giving up my sandals. I grieve!
Seasonal adaptation? In Dallas? Man, we’re not even done with summer yet…
LMAO! I would so do the same thing – keep on wearing my flip-flops even in the frosty temps. But alas, we never really get frosty temps here. It’s normal to wear flip-flops all year round! (as mommyd already said) I know, you want to hit me don’t you?!
Raehan, I totally remember the Mork and Mindy socks. Ha!
Your feet are going to freeze…I am not a flip-flog person so I don’t have to worry about that. I live in Houston so I am really enjoying the cool weather.
Here in Okinawa were heat prevails, Joe and I turn the AC on in our room every night just so we won’t have to give up flannel sheets and our down comforter.
Also we had pesto and apple cake last night thanks to you! Yum.
I haven’t put mine away yet either. Yesterday I had on jeans , a sweater, and my flip flops.
I do not feel your pain. Have always been flip-flop challenged because of my sensitive feet I had actually remarked to a friend the other day that it look particularly weird for her to be wearing a winter coat and flip-flop combination. It must be especially invigorating in the raw Fall rain when you step in a puddle of ice water!
Cali girl here-no changes for me…sorry
The times where it’s a high of 40 one day and 70 the next…grrr…
Ahhhh, the flip flops. I have been going back and forth between boots and flips. Luckily we’ve been having highs in the 70s, and I am still rocking the flip flops on most days.
