My daughters are both having their picture days at school this week. You know the drill- you pick out a nice outfit, try to not have their hair sticking up and practice smiling with them a few times so they know how you want it to turn out. When you drop them at school they look perfect. Six hours later after having cafeteria tacos for lunch, running around at recess and finger painting all afternoon, they sit for their pictures. What you get back a month later (Portrait Package A - Two 8×10s, Three 5×7 and a Million wallets) looks nothing like the child you sent to school that fine day. But we never learn, right?
She would have us sit on her bed while she rolled our hair, wrap a big ol’ scarf around our heads and send us to bed. To her it was like instant coffee, to us it was more like whiplash. Not only did we wake up the next morning and march to school with a bad Shirley Temple do but we had cricks in our necks to boot. Say Cheese!

First Grade- Yes, she even rolled our bangs.

3rd Grade- Here she also cut my bangs. Too short? (Ya Think!) What was with the ruffle collars??
Then in 5th grade, I got my revenge. I cut my little sister’s bangs the day before dance pictures. Evil!

(see what I mean?? WHIPLASH!)
Your Turn:
This is a real contest. I want your worst school or organized picture ever (clothes on, please). I will post the pics tomorrow in my Thursday 13 so every one can vote. You game?
Lemmeee see it!
_________
I will begin to post the answers to yesterday’s Answer & Ask over the weekend.
I’m going to try really hard to be honest.

Oh, I have some doozies! I will try to dig them out after I get home from work! This should be fun!
I am laughing so very hard -but not at your pictures. Today is Gracie’s school picture day. Colby was brushing her hair and she says, “You should trim her bangs.” NO! Never cut the bangs on picture day morning!
Our scanner is not cooperating lately so I don’t know if I’ll have a photo to post. I’ll have to look and see what is already on a cd.
I love your Cindy Brady Pigtails.
LOL!!! good ones, mommaK! reminds me of my mom’s curlers, only they were red!
too bad we didn’t have picture days in our old school…
Oh, my. I have a picture I unaffectionately call “the George Washington picture” where my mom had used the pink sponge rollers. I had a perfect set of curls just like one of those white wigs. UGH!
If I can dig one up, and I’m not too embarassed, I’ll post one on here soon. Too funny! Great topic!
I like the shirley temple pic…as for the bangs that is hillarious!!! I have a great pic but its at my mom’s :-( I cant wait to see all of them!! TTYL
after 34 moves, and with one coming in a week, I couldnt’ begin to find old school pics but these are great. I got a real giggle and I am going to go promise Little Princess not to do the same to her. LOL (but I probably will LOL)
I’ll have to see if I can find any…
Yours are great!!
Where do I send it?
I would love to participate, but all my awful school pictures are about 3,500 miles away. I was always very shy in school and hated getting my pictures taken, so most of mine have this painful smile plastered on my face and I look absolutely pissed off about the fact that some stranger is not only taking my picture, but touched my hair and angled my face in 20 different positions. Why do they still do this to kids?
You know, I think I have too many bad school photos to choose from.
I DO have one in mind…it involves a shiny yellow dress and very short hair…*shudder*
This is funny. You look so happy in the dance picture. Cutting those bangs felt, good, huh?
I asked Rachel why she cut her sister’s hair. Kind of a stupid question. It’s like asking me, why did you eat that chocolate ice cream? You knew it had all those calories. Why did you eat it then?
Ummmmmmmm….
Dangit! All of my photos are perfect. I can’t participate! :P
oh lord I cannot stop laughing!
i would so love to do this but i’m not nearly organized, first i’d have to find a pic, which i have somewhere buried away, then i’d have to learn how to use the scanner and then i’d have to figure out how to send it over to you. and now that you reminded me tomorrow is thursday 13, i have to start working on that.
Hee! Mine are all beautiful! but I’m sure the clothes are as funky as yours. I will go look for one!
I would totally win… if only I could find my old pictures! It’ll be a race against the clock to find them, but I must try… I MUST!!
This is a great post. I had some of those too short bangs, ugh! I’ll have to see what I can dig up. BTW Love the dance pic!
I totally, seriously have NO pictures of me as a kid. Okay I have a couple. But I was really little, and adorable. I’ll give you those, and you can pick the worse of the two! My mom is not only a pack rat, she hordes everything!! LOL
My mother has all of my school pics, and I’m not driving to south Texas to get them. :p
However, I WILL sit here and laugh at those curls and short bangs (not to mention the ruffled collar). LOLOL
Great pictures there. My school sadly didn’t take pictures.
Haha, you left out the fabulous “big hair” photo that I happen to know you’ve got somewhere on your computer.
[But then, that was really a GOOD photo of you.]
I don’t have time to find and scan my worst photo ever but it’s pretty bad. It was 4th grade. My mom had cut “wings” in my hair to frame my face (a la Farrah) the night before. But in the morning the wings had become more like lobster pinchers. They stuck out all pointy-like from the sides of my face. There was nothing we could do to “tame” the pinchers. Then, just for extra awfulness, the photo was snapped while I blinked. But it wasn’t a full blink, it was only halfway. Apparently there was enough of my druggy-looking eyes showing for the photographer to feel there shouldn’t be a retake. Of course I had no idea about it until the day the photos came back. I can still remember walking home with my sister after getting the photos back and the 2 of us crying all the way. We were crying because we were laughing SO hard just imagining what our mom was going to say/do. It was hilarious. We laughed about it all through dinner. My dad made us leave the table. My sister and I still laugh at that photo. In fact I’m laughing now just thinking about it as I type this!
Oh my goodness! You were Buffy from Family Affair in 1st grade! Too cute…
I have some truly awful pics & should be able to participate if I can get the dang scanner set up in here…
I do not have a scanner and my pictures are still boxed up. But my winner would have been the one where my mom did not do my hair, my choice of clothing was horrid and my eyes were swollen shut do to mono. Ah yes that should have been a winner.
I wish I had a scanner because I am sure I could come up with a good picture ;(
I will be back to see everyone’s picture..this should be interesting.
OMG!!! Mine is so much worse than yours. LOL!
I love yours! I wonder if I can find mine. My bangs never were the same because I have a big ol cowlick!
Actually…..in defense of motherhood and all it’s privileges…..my experiments with hair styling were a pure act of love! An attempt to perserve the essense of my family’s history! MommaK was remiss in describing the actual rollers I used as torture tools: They were the hard plastic variety complete with an inner brush and a snaptop which held the roller firmly to the head. I completed the ensemble with a scarf - wrapped and knotted tighty around the victim’s head so that no roller could possibly escape. These snaptops had an unfortunate result: clear crisp roller indentations in the head which took about two days of heavy brushing to loosen. I tell ya - heads turned when MY girls walked into Church each Sunday!!
Those are hilarious. Luckily, my Mom never curled my hair or cut my bangs too short. And she actually dressed me pretty cute, but I’ll see if I can find something.
THIS is going to be fun.
TOO FUNNY!
That is a fabulous idea…I love it, I only wish I had 2 hours to drive down to San Diego because my mom has pictures there of me that would SO WIN! Oh well I’ll have to be a spectator and voter only. And great timing, today was my kids’ picture day. I went with package B…and Kai, she changed her clothes 3 times after we found a hole in the shirt we planned on the night before…typical. I was totally late for work, can’t wait to see how they all turned out!
At least you were cute - my awful pictures had bad hair and missing teeth.
Oh I have had some great ones that would be perfect for you. My mom has them in MI though. Darn it is too late to call her. I might still have to get them too you.
I would have to be out of my mind to post one of my youthful school photos; of course, my siblings and nieces/nephews already consider this state of affairs (aka, me outta my mind) as SOP in SkunkfeatherVille. So I’ll consider it…
OMG my mom used to put those same pink spongy curlers in my hair too!
