Last Sunday, my husband and I spent the day unearthing our home gym equipment from the laundry/storage room. We own a bowflex and a treadmill that for the past year were acting as glorified clotheslines. Now that they are integrated back into our lives and our living room we have to use them or forever be reminded of our failure. So far, so good - but it has only been a week.

One thing I found tucked away in the depths of spiderville that I did not add to our gym area was the Torsotrack.
Remember those things?

I bought it after seeing an infomercial 5 years ago when I was still trying to get my tummy back after baby #2. I did it every day but did not really see any results. Why I still have it, I do not know. I do know it wasn’t the stupidest thing I bought to lose weight. That would have to be Metabolife. After taking Metabolife for a week I almost wrecked my car on the way to pick my husband up from the airport in Oklahoma City. I got all jittery and had trouble seeing the road at night. I was praying and sweating the whole way there and threw the bottle out as soon I got home. Very scary.
What about you?

A special thank you to the drop-dead-gorgeous Michele for making my Monday oh-so-wonderful!

Hi MommaK. I am glad you are Michele’s site today, as I have been very remiss in visiting. We have had tons of workout equipment in the house over the years. None of it used much. THe neighborhood had a yard sale amd we put it out expecting to sell it. But just about every house had some out on display.
Hello, Michele sent me.
1) I have a pilates mat and a big ball laying around. Nope, don’t use it.
2) Yes. I bought a few things. I know it doesn’t work, but it doesn’t stop me from hoping it will work.
3) I can’t remember.
hi mommaK! congratulations on being michele’s site of the day! you rock!
now, for my answers:
1. i don’t have any exercise equipment here in HK, but i do have a Taebo video. does that count?!
2. my sister and i bought an ab-roller and a stepper for our other sister after seeing it in an infomercial. it’s now gathering dust in our parents’ house.
3. the craziest thing i did for the sake of losing weight is the After Six Diet… that’s when you don’t eat anything after 6p.m. granting you’re in bed by 9p.m. i lost two inches from my waist in one week.
I have lots of exercise videos but no equipment at home except for hand weights. We don’t have room for equipment in our house really. We do belong to a gym, though.
The TaeBo tapes were bought after seeing a million commercials. I hate TaeBo.
I guess the craziest thing I’ve done was trying Metabolife, too. Thought I was going to die after about 2 days.
I’m here from Michele’s today. Enjoy your day as Site of the Day Part 2!
OMG I would answer this but would make a giant ass of myself I’m sure of it! Suffice it to say I’ve done more stupid things than you have, neener neener!
I’m just waiting for Magic Erasers to work on FAT! ARRRGH!
oh. yeah. Michele sent me. I would have come anyway, but that’s sorta personal isn’t it? Sorry, shutting up now.
1. my dogs ;-)
2. nope
3. can’t say; it was illegal ;-)
Hi, Michele sent me :-)
I have a treadmill that my husband purchased for me “as a surprise” in my 6th month of pregnancy. I came home from class to find it all set up in the living room … and he was sitting with a big smile saying, “YOUR welcome honey!!” He’s still alive, and I’m still married to him - how’s that for “the craziest thing I’ve ever done to lose weight”?
I’ve never bought anything after an infomercial …. I view those things as evil and mis-leading. I’m probably missing out on some great products, but so far, it has saved my budget!
Hi, Michele sent me
Congrats on being Michele’s SOTD!!
I’ve only ever bought myself exercise videos and a few hand weights. I think the silliest video I bought was Tai Chi. How anyone can get fit doing that, I’ll never know.
My parents bought me one of those machines where your feet slide back and forth on tracks and your hands mimic them on handles. Don’t remember what they’re called. The thing moved so rough and so loud I ended up with a splitting headache whenever I used it.
I own a Precor Elliptical that collects more dust than miles.
http://www.precor.com/cons/efx/521i/
I also own ALL the Tae-Bo videos (these do work…when you use them!)
I too have used Metabolife and Xenadrine and Herbalife and whatever else is out there.
I have tried South Beach, Atkins, the BloodType Diet, and the many more.
I lost the most weight by eating a breakfast bar for breakfast, vegetables for lunch (broccoli or something) and 2 bowls of cereal with skim milk for dinner. I started walking 3 miles a night that turned into running 3 to 5 miles a night. The weight melted off! Now to get motivated to do it again!
We have some equipment in our room that gets used occasionally. I don’t use the exercise ball I bought. My kids sit on it to play video games.
Congrats on being Michele’s site of the day.
1. No
2. No
3. Starve
I am no fun, am I? LOL
I have no workout equipment in my house, save a bright green resistance band for stretching. I finally joined a gym, as my house is way too distracting to try and add workouts to it.
Good morning from Michele’s place!
I decided long ago that my desire for chocolate far outweighed my desire to be thin, so maybe I am the wrong person to answer.
1)Only last week I came across some weights equipment that supposedly belongs to my husband. The fact that we have been living together for 5 years and I didn’t even know he owned anything like that, probably answers the second part of this question.
2)See above
3)In my weight-loss obssesive days I went on his diet where you eat nothing but fresh pineapple for breakfast lunch and dinner and then (for some reason) two bananas before you go to bed. (?!)
I had a similar experience to the one you described in the car..
Michele sent me by the way..
Good morning MommaK! Michele sent me.
In response to your questions:
1. I own a stability ball and yoga mat. I haven’t used either in a few months, because I haven’t gone on vacation and I take them with me then.
2. No, but I did buy a paintstick (the roller where you suck the paint into the hollow tube handle) and I love it.
3. Atkins — I’m a vegetarian and I hate to admit that I started eating meat just to do it.
Hello, michele sent me (but I would have been here anyway)
1) I don’t have workout equipment in my house
2) I have bought some kind of herbal diet pill thing after seeing a commercial
3) When I was younger, I vacillated between not eating and getting sick to lose weight.
I’ve wondered about that Metabolife! Yikes! Sounds like scary stuff.
I have a number of exercise videos here collecting dust, along with a step aerobics bench. Sigh.
I haven’t bought anything after seeing an infomercial, but I’m always wanting to come up with something to sell on an infomercial! ;-)
Happy Michele Sent Me Day, MommaK!! Wooohoo!!
WOW…so many comments and it is sooo early. I thought I would be the FIRST!!!
But anyway….I have a Jake’s Gym and an abdoer….using them feels like no workout at all. But the stupidest thing has to be the HOLLYWOOD DIET DRINK???!!! You can lose 10 lbs in 2 days just drink it for all your meals.
Good for you!!!!
We own a treadmill that we both use fairly often. The first one died in March, and it had well over 2000 miles on it. Hubby trained for a marathon, so there ya go. Now, the new one we have has about 550 miles on it so far (245 are MINE!). Needless to say, no spiders. ;-)
Congrats on being the site of the day AGAIN! Michele sent me!
We have an exercise bike in the living room, many pilates, taebo and exercise videos and no, I don’t use them.
I bought one of those Bodyflex bars by Greer Childers. I used it and used it with little results. A couple months ago I got a refund check. Apparently, there was a class action suit filed.
The craziest thing I did for weight loss, oh man, too many stupid diets and “miraclepills” to mention!
Have a great day MommaK.
Congrats, MommaK! SWD has given away a lot of equipment and what we still have collects dust. He uses the bands for his exercise. I generally try not to sweat.
So, that would be:
1. Yes (inside and out). No.
2. Me: No. SWD: Yes
3. Me: In younger years, forgetting to eat. (I don’t have that problem anymore.) SWD: Has tried everything. Michael Thurmond plan is working for him now.
I have a treadmill that I use when I can’t walk outside.
I just bought The Firm exercise tapes but I won’t be surprised if I end up selling them on ebay, lol.
I used to starve myself. I don’t know how I did it either because now I hate to miss a meal.
Hi MommaK! Michele sent me. Cute site. Have a great day!
Congrats on SOTD. michele sent us.
1. It took too long to get rid of the last exercise bike that never got used. I do have two yoga mats because I am too lazy to bring one up from down stairs.
2. I don’t trust informercials. If it were any good, they wouldn’t need one.
3. As crazy as it sounds, I ate less and exercised more. I know, completely nuts, but it worked for me. Unfortunately, lately I have been doing the opposite. Not working quite as well.
Taking a break at school to tell you that we do indeed have exercise equipment in our home. It’s next to the washer, and I hang things on it so they won’t wrinkle.
As for the exercise video. . . . does that David Lee Roth “Just A Gigolo” segment count?
Hello, Michele sent me! I’ve got a treadmill in the basement that I used to use religiously. I’ll bet “used to” is used a lot with the exercise equipment!
Hey mommaK!! Congrats on being the site of the day!! You definitely deserve it! I always enjoy coming to petroville…TTYL
I had some kind of ab thing — AbFlex? And a workout machine from Sears. I threw one out and gave the other away. Never again.
Michele sent me!
Hello MommaK. I’m here from Micheles.
1) Do you have workout equipment in your house? If so, do you use it? Yes, a treadmill I bought in August. I use it 3 times a week if I really, Really, REALLY guilt myself into it. This usually happens when I’m laying on the couch after dinner or thinking that I want something sickeningly sweet.
2) Have you ever bought a weight loss or exercise product after seeing the infomercial? Yes. Shamefully, I own the Butt & Thigh Max. It is in a box under my bed. It has been there since I moved in January.
3) What is the craziest thing you’ve done or purchased to lose weight/ get in shape? Okay, I bought that shit Anna Nicole was hawking, TrimSpa Bahbee. $110, 6 weeks and no thinner later my loving husband pointed out that we could have bought new dishes. Ass.
Good morning, Michele sent me, but I have had the privilege of being here before. Congrats on being Michele’s site of the day — very well deserved.
I have never bought any of that stuff because being out of shape is a whole lot easier. But congratulations to you. Those machines WILL make a difference is properly plied.
I bought the six week body makeover and couldn’t stick with it.
Finally got rid of the treadmill my husband (meaning well) got me for christmas–I wanted one that folded up. I don’t like having them take up so much space.
I’ve got lots of videos/dvds and haven’t used them in two years. I also have light hand weights.
Ugh excercise
I’m with Joe, ugh! Exercise.
LOL
I have a bike that I haven’t used in 4 years? Good thing I didn’t pay for it. We won it at a raffle at a gym opening. hahaha
We have the exercise equipment, just not the time. Ok, that’s an excuse I suppose, but a good one, right?
Hello, Michele sent me, great blog!
1) Yes I had a very expensive treadmill which ended up being a very expensive clothes hanger.
2) Yes I purchased the Windsor Pilates DVD…um, OWWW! I did it 3 times, and complained for months afterward.
3) The craziest thing was to undertake the “bread and water” diet in 10th grade, I figured hey, it’s something and I’m SURE the pounds will just fall off!! Um, yeah, not so much.
Michele sent me! I have an elliptical that I begged hubby to buy me in May and I have used it about 3 times!
Congrats on being site of the day!
I don’t know why hubby and I keep buying these things, since, like you, they end up being clotheslines! I’m not as bad as he is, though, since he bought one of those electronic muscle stimulator things that was supposed to give him flat abs! LOL. YEAH RIGHT!
All my answers to this are negative since I’ve never bought exercise equipment, never bought any kind of weight loss product or done anything crazy to lose weight! lol But I’m sure my time will arrive, hopefully later rather than sooner.
Michele sent me!
1.) I think I have a few exercise videos laying around the house. Unfortunatley with the turnover to DVD’s they’re pretty ancient now and totally useless. I’m more of an outside jogger type of girl. Although now winter is coming, and it’s too cold in the Midwest to run outside (see…always an excuse NOT to work out with me)
2.) My first year in college I was an info-mercial junkie. I LOVE new products, and infomercials offer you just that. While I’ve never tried any of the weightloss schemes on TV, I did try to enhance my bust through some pill. Needless to say…I’m still an A cup.
3.) I’ve never done anything crazy to try and lose weight, but I have tried to GAIN weight. I used to take pills that weight lifters take just to try and give myself some meat. If only I would have known that all I had to do was enter college and drink myself silly and eat like there’s no tomorrow, I’d gain weight in a second!! Ahhh, hind sight is 20/20.
Here from MIchelle’s. Thanks for the interaction!!!
1: Workout? Surely you jest!
2: See above.
3: See above.
1) okay, we’ve had in our house: a schwinn stepper (sold it at a garage sale because it was a hanger for my husband’s tshirts at night); a gazelle max (which did NOT work so we took it back); an ab roller (which i haven’t used in months, though it did work); the ABslide (which definitely works, though we haven’t seen it in months either); The Firm’s step and body bar set with videos for your butt (last used last year sometime); and about 25 workout videos including Kathy Smith (which I use), denise austin (who i hate), buns & abs of steel, pilates, yoga, tai chi, bellydancing sisters, etc.; and FINALLY the Slim in 6 series tapes, which TOTALLY work and i’ve been using again with great results. *whew!*
2. i think the list above answers this question.
3. the craziest thing had to be the gazelle.
Hello, here from Michele’s.
I tried those wraps that are supposed to suck the bad juju out of you. It didn’t work, the bad juju stayed right were I left it.
1. i have a jumprope which i use sometimes! and pilates ball.
2. no infomercial purchases
3. have not been the healthiest dieter in the past. i purchased many pills, including, like you, metabolife. and stackers when they used to have ephedra… those really worked! i also did w.w. using virtually no points. but now i am trying to do w.w. the right way and it is working… slowly, but working nonetheless!
Hi. Here from Michele’s. I own a treadmill & a gazelle. I’d have to say the gazelle is the silliest thing I’ve bought & yes I use them both!
1. Yes, tons.
2. No
3. Dieted. LOL
congrats on being site of the day!!!!
i’m here on my own, but i’ll be back later once i visit at michelle’s as well.
i too have some laundry racks, i mean work out equipment in my home. how does that happen?
There’s probably a workout in just finding the equipment in spiderville and getting it set up.
Michele sent me, via the Ding Dang Woods.
rashbre
i actually started using our treadmill last year when we set it up in our garage, after dropping our health club membership (which we weren’t using).
It has been a lifesaver. I needed to start exercising because my post second child PMSing was starting to scare me.
* I do not have any in my house, but my apartment complex has a fitness room down the way a bit… I go through phases, we’ll leave it at that
* I bought a weight loss pill after reading a review online–kinda close to an informercial!
* Um, can’t think of anything too crazy aside from buying that stupid pill I just mentioned!
Congrats on being Michele’s site of the day–way cool!
hey, it’s me again, this time via michelle’s!!!!!!
Hey congratulations re: Michele!
Those infomercials can be QUITE convincing. One of the few things I’ve bought tthat way that I still like is Widsor Pilates.
I don’t excersize, but I drink lots of banana power shakes, those things go right through me.
Hoo hoo hoo ha ha ha ha!
Michele sent me!
Hello Michelle sent me. But strictly speaking that’s not true. You know I would have been here anyway.
I have a treadmill that I use pretty regularly. No, I’ve never bought anything else or done anything crazy to get in shape. I’m so boring.
Hey girlie!!!! This post was priceless. God, I didn’t know anyone actually bought the torsotrack, but then again I’m sure it was the “stepper” of its day. Here’s me answers:
(1) I have an elliptical which I use quite faithfully, but I had a lung infection and now I’m finding it very difficult to get back into using it every day….
(2) Nah, I haven’t bought anything for weight loss from an infomercial, but I did buy some sea monkeys after seeing them on a commercial when I was a kid…and a chia pet….DOES THAT COUNT????
(3) I was a gal who gave my lunch away for every day of 9th grade. I have like 40 lbs to lose now post-babies, but I would rather stay where I am and exercise than go back to where I was then. It was crazy! All skin and bones. So now it’s sensibility time..gotta be an example for the kids. But I sure would LOVE to get a treadmill….
Hello, Michele sent me! I’ve purchased a couple of DVDs with the idea that I’d use one before I got pregnant, one when I was pregnant, and one for getting back in shape after I had the baby. None of them have been viewed, let alone actually used. I am shockingly lazy about it. To paraphrase an old gem, I am so unfamiliar with the gym I call it James.
we have workout equipment and use it regularly!!
For years, we had a treadmill, aka “the bathrobe holder”…finally got sick of watching it collect dust and sold it in a yard sale!
BTW…I saw the Anna Nalick cd in your sidebar…I’m totally addicted to that cd! Awesome.
Here from Michele’s!
I have an exercise bike taking up space in my family room. I haven’t used it in four years.. but my grand kids like to play on it when they visit.:-)
Stopping by to say hello….
Ah, you flatter me. Please, keep it up! (wink)
Answers:
1. I have no exercise equipment at home - however, I do have wonderful lakefront running paths just outside my front door, and yes, I use them almost daily.
2. I have never purchased anything exercise related from an infomercial. However, I have purchased Spanx from The Shopping Channel. Spanx are WONDERFUL and allow everyone else to think I have been exercising. Does that count?
3. The list of silly diet things is quite long. During my twenties I followed the advice of another model and went on a melba toast diet. I have not been able to eat melba toast since.
Great questions!
Hugs….
I bought tae bo videos. They are still in the plastic wrap but should be coming out soon.
Michele sent me.
My aunt used to sell Metabolife and had a mild stoke from it. Needless to say, she doesn’t sell it anymore.
Hi, Michele sent me.
1. Yes, but not often
2. No
3. Trim Spa
I’m not here because Michele sent me — I’m a regular intruder. :p
I don’t own any exercise equipment anymore, unless the arm & ankle weights I wear for my morning two miles counts.
My husband has a workout bench with free weights that I used to use before kids. I have a yoga mat and some yoga and pilates tapes. I really need to get back into those two because I am a huge stress ball!
I once bought an ab roller. What a piece of junk! I threw it out.
We JUST sold our own bowflex and high priced (originally) treadmill to my brother and sister in law.
Now they are sitting and collecting dust at THEIR house! And we are $700 richer.
Whoo hoo!
I have an Elliptical and some free weights and use them every week. The craziest this I have done was eating pancakes made from egg whites, protein powder and pancake mix for 3 weeks. It worked though.
