We had some landscaping work done in June which caused me to transplant my tiny pumpkin plant to another flower bed. The little plant looked like it wasn’t going to make it after the move. It was droopy and sad. Even my husband remarked on its sorry state but I never gave up on it. I was determined to grow my own pumpkins this year. I watered it every day and pretty soon it was standing straight up again.
When we returned from our vacation, after a week of no rain in Virginia, my grass was dying but the now very tall pumpkin plant was thriving. It was then that I remembered that pumpkin plants don’t grow up, they grow out. Hmmmm…
Well, then what was this thing? I planted the little seed myself and watched it grow. Could it be something else? Could I have been tending, guarding and hovering over a weed all summer?

#1 - What do you think this mystery plant is?

#2 - What about this one?

Um, I’m no expert here, but weeds.
I have a few mystery plants around as well.
I’m not a plant person, but I don’t think that looks like a pumpkin plant. :P
Well if the plant was in BC you could be about to weedwack some major moola! LOL.
AHAHAHAHAHHAHHA….you don’t really expect a real answer I hope
I have no idea about plants…they all look the same to me, green and leafy! I have trouble keeping my grass alive…ahahahaha
I’m sure you will let us know later though, right? Great, thanks!!!!!
Are you growing your own pot again??
I think those are the same weeds I have. LOL The first one will bloom with probably a yellow flower, those get so big they look like a tobacco plant but if you let it get that big you will have to dig up the root completely to get rid of it. If I could see the second one better, the stem, it looks like what we used to call poke salad. Poisonous unless you know how to cook it.
Those are called Green Plants. They’re very common where you live. They require a drought to thrive.
They are useless. Only useless plants thrive in a drought.
It might be kudzu, though. Better think about moving.
Who ever said that weeds cannot be pretty? Phewy!
The top one is looking like a weed to me, ha-ha, that’s funny, though. The bottom one might be…a something?
Keep us posted.
Ok-don’t know what it is- but the comments are sure funny-pumkin looks like a sqaush plant remember- if these are from CA-I think Monty might be on to something!Hahahahah
that top one looks like a weed, not sure what the bottom one is though, doesn’t look like a weed.
I’m an expert in the field of weed growth… and, well, I think that’s what you’ve got! They’re thriving!!!
Well honey, I’m sorry, but, that is not a pumpkin plant. Pumpkin plants have more of a heart/ivy shape to the leaves. The leaves get huge. Do a Yahoo search for pumpkin plants and look at the images. They will show that they look like. Maybe next yearyou will have a huge pumpkin patch. It’s possible a bird or squirrel dug up your pumpkin seed and ate it. *hugs for you MommaK.*
I can tell you for sure, that is no pumpkin plant. We have some, and it looks nothing like it. HA! Sorry! Nice weeds though. They look very healthy. hehehe
tsk tsk tsk….I hope you are growing that for medicinal purposes! LMAO!
Not sure what that is…
Let me guess, it’s for medicinal purposes, huh?
Don’t worry..I won’t turn you over to the feds.
I’d remove that picture. The police might be round to seize the plant.
Yup! Looks like you got yourself some weeds. But they’re pretty ones!
Definitely NOT a pumpkin. Probably a weed. But it’s pretty, so leave it! Maybe it will have a flower!
Said by someone who puts weeds in vases all over her house. . . . .
You know all about my weeds. You can tend to them lovingly if you want. Maybe they’ll all turn into lovely pumpkin sprouing plants that grow upward.
Not a pumpkin, for sure. I know, because many years we have pumpkins growing by our compost heap from the previous year’s composted remains.
Howdy! I came via Michele’s.
That most certainly ain’t no pumpkin… It could be some kind of mint, or maybe it’s just a weed as everyone else says. I find regular plants too challenging for my not-so-green thumb. I find that cacti are the way to go… the only way to kill them is to over water them, so for a neglectful soul like me they are the perfect option!
Sometimes I let the “I don’t knows” continue growing. Every now and then they’ll surprise you with a bloom.
I had a lovely vine (wild) growing up my stairs and around the decking. I tended it, and now it blooms the most beautiful blue flowers ever.
i’m clueless with plants and flowers… I got a “darth vadar” orchid from work recently and am hoping it will stay perky and purple for a little while.
Weeds or not, I love it here in petroville, am off to blogroll you now…
Yaeli is right. The top one looks like mint. I doubt it is however because the smell would have led you to that conclusion also. The bottom one looks very familiar but I can’t place it. I suspect weed also though. So, why have you been nurturing these plants?
